89 esprit suspension?

needing new rear shocks for my 89 esprit should i up grade or stick to standard been to donnington over weekend and saw some 300 sport shocks was told that i should not mess around with the standard setup as lotus got it right in the first place is this true or can i improve? if i can up grade any sugestions on what to up grade to any info would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I would look to upgrade slightly. If lotus 'got it right first time' then we wouldn't have 17+ different models. See more here:
