HI, my name is Dave. I own a 1998 V8 with the old style 'square' rear lights. I have been told that it is possible to purchase a conversion kit to obtain the new styled round light look. I heared that the actual lights are elise mk2 lights. I was wondering if anyone has done this and can tell me what is involved, where i can buy the bits i need and how much it will cost. Cheers!

Steve (unity1) has done this mod and has pics on his site:

www.unity1.co.uk/Lotus/

You can buy all the parts you need from lotus, but they are expensive and it involves cutting the rear of your car to fit.

Lotus PBC in the usa do a kit that does not need any cutting:

www.lotuspbc.com/

Also, SJ Sportscars also do a kit..

Cheers

Hi Dave and welcome. We met at PNM a few weeks back. I see you finally made it on this forum. As for your rear light conversion SJ do the full kit for about £480+VAT or just the rear panel for £125+VAT.
Also speak to Pete at PNM as he know a guy who can make you the LED light set up cheaper than the Elise lights.
Also you can purchase used lights from www.eliseparts.com but double check that they are not damaged.
Take a look on Steve Wright's (Unity1 site) where he done the same mods with pics www.unity1.co.uk/Lotus/
Also speak to Doors Hendrie who owns a GT3 who has just completed this mod only a few weeks ago http://community.webshots.com/user/doorsey

Hope this helps,

Woodchop just go ahead and do it. Its not difficult and looks fantastic. Here the direct link to my effort.

Tony you can get the Lotus part off the shelf but does require the rear lip to be cutoff in addition. Even with the SJ varient you still need to cut for the new lights.

I did the same mod myself. There are a number of different sources for the conversion. With the right tools this can be done in about an hour. However, most of these conversions require cutting. These cuts are done on areas that aren't visible so do not have to be particularly tidy. It is still a bit traumatic to start cutting.

My 99 looks like a completely different car. Great upgrade and I would recommend it.

What makes the three piece kit a three piece kit?.

I see that green sport 300 has the lip still intact and the new panel starting above it,so i assume this is the SJ 'three piece' that does not need this lip cut away .
But it looks like one panel still,Why the 'three'?
