How fast is an Esprit

Is an Esprit fast?
***Why yes they are, what sort of odd question is that?
I always thought they were.
***So you answered your own question then LOL...well done!!
My WS6 raped one.
**did he take her from behind or just up front. Boy I hope the Esprit recovered ok!!
It seemed like I was racing a mini.
**Well if it was a mini it wernt an Esprit, perhaps you should ask on the Mini Forum.
Whats up with that? You tell us!!
Look all I can say is your car is reasonably fast and nice looking too, I was going to buy one before the Esprit as they are soooo cheap to import I went cold on the idea, they de value sooo quick! A great friend of ours has one he wants to sell badly its just boring. They just don't have the same famous history and IMO have no class at all, thats just the way it goes for high volume "common" cars.
Look sorry but you came to the wrong forum to brag about your little dream you had.

Have never understood how anyone overtaking me can claim to have won a race, What race anyway?
Was there a little referee with a whistle?
A chequered flag?
A pre-arranged finish point?
Or was it just driving illegally on public roads til the less immature driver cooled it?
Could be he/she was on the carphone,
Could be he/she was near home letting her cool down,
Could be he/she was not easily baited,
Could their passenger wishes to be get out rather than be cut out?
Could be they have complete apathy to the opinions of kids who have seen too many films but not nearly enough real life crashes.

This has probably been posted before, but I thought it was appropriate.

I get similar idiocy from people who see I have a TVR... a 1987 TVR. So they approach me with the latest firebreathing 300 bhp Jap monster and suggest we race. I suggest they'll win. Chiken, they call me. OK, I say: either you feck off and come back with a car that has a 40-year-old Jap engine design (same era as my Rover V8), or I'll go away and come back with the latest TVR. NOW see who fancies a race...
I don't own the TVR and the Esprit to go fast: I own them to have somthing that few others ever have, or ever will. THAT is individualism, not being a twat in a fast car. Anyone an do that.

Yes, very quick. Around 5 seconds in a straight line to 60. Same motor as the C5 Vette, just a bit restricted by the exhaust.
BUT, quite possibly the ulgiest coupe ever. Big honking air scoops. Silly interior. Weird angles and lines everywhere. LIVE rear axle, all kinds of axel tramp. Crap brakes. Used to be able to get a big Kickin' Chicken decal on the hood. Not sure if that is still available. Don't care.
Here's the oddest thing about these cars. They weigh about 3400 lbs. They are HUGE....as big as most full size sedans. And they have NO room on the inside. A total waste realy and an affront to the decent Firebirds and Camaros of the late 60s and early 70s. These cars never grew up or matured or changed in anyway. Hell, even the Mustang has (on some models) four wheel indpendent suspension, decent brakes and an OHV motor now.
Good riddance to these things in my view. I'd rather have the new Pontiac GTO/Holden Monaro. Far more useful.

Jeff,
I think you meant OHC ;-)
This is an interesting point. Ford's OHC designs (the double and single) are incredibly large and bulkly while not producing a tremendous amount of hp.
Meanwhile, us folks that use the original SB Ford with modern design heads etc. for our cars are able to extract 450-525hp from 5.0-5.5 L of displacement, naturally aspriated. And, we do it with a light motor that is extremely compact due to the pushrod design with cam in block. We can get more from them but it becomes a little tricky on the drivability side.
Same is true for the excellent GM new generation of SBs. Light, compact, and capable of serious power.
So, I'm not convinced having a SOHC or DOHC motor, as Ford is currently making, is a good thing. On the other hand, I really like my DOHC Lotus motor so back to Lotus discussions....

I've just done a Lycos search to find out what the hell a WS6 is. F*ck me sideways, that's an ugly piece and no mistake. I thought barry Manilow had a nose problem. Fast in a straight line eh? Bravo; so is a Space shuttle, but I wouldn't want one of them either.
Couldn't agree more. As an example there was some unidentifiable version of a Mitsubishi passed me on the motorway the other day, fairly snorting the road up, and yet still looked to be on half throttle. BUT it looked as inviting as a dose of clap.
#NOTE FOR INITIAL AUTHOR; words to look up in dictionary: taste, subtlety, finesse, breeding, objectivity, maturity.
(PS And I am not a table thumping patriot, some of my favourite cars wear the stars and stripes)

I agree with you on both notes. Chevy seems to the worst offender (I think there was a discussion on one of the other PistonHeads forums about how ugly the Impala is.) The new C6 Corvette is the first Corvette that I think is good looking.
Of course I do own a Chevy Prizm (which is a rebadged Toyota.) As for US cars, the line is very gray (here in the US,) most of the Japanese "imports" are designed and built in the US as well.
That said, my daily driver is a Jeep Cherokee, which I love and I'm upset that Jeep replaced it.

According to modernracer.com a stock WS6 will do 0-60 in a respectable 5.2 seconds. However Esprits built from 1990-92 will do 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, and from 1993 on an esprit will do 0-60 in under 5 seconds.
supercars.net states that a factory V8TT esprit will do 0-60 in 4.4 seconds (That would equate to Al's Esprit openening a can of wup-ass all over Troy's WS6).
So congratulations Troy you must of just beat a esprit that was probably 15 to 30 years old (if in fact the driver was even racing you). By the way you should park that thing, it's truely ugly.

Think some of you missed this link, This is what the WS6 looks like
, After reading about the supposedly 'lucky' passer by (trapped by his dash with a broken ankle) it would seem WS6 owners are are typically from the shallow end of the gene pool...
This was this guys first post too!
