Esprit values / types
Discussion
Hello
I'm sort of considering the purchase of an Esprit. Circa £15k. What I don't understand is why prices of 1985 Turbos, 1992 Turbo SE's and 1996/7 GT3's all seem to be about the same. I get that the early pre Stevens ones are collectable but isn't a 1996 GT3 better than a 1992 SE given similar mileage etc ?
Is there anywhere where I can get a proper idea of what the attractions of each model are, the original costs and the current values ?.
Thanks
PS the red 1992 SE on the 'for sale'pages looks terrific !!

Hi Dave,
Thought you would have got a few replies to this...
I'm currently looking at the SE's as my second Esprit,
I have seen 9k ones and 16k ones, I have seen cars that need 3k of paint AND 1k of interior work too,
and thats just skin deep and not always easy to notice (these cars are visually stunning even in bad nick)...
I would suggest you do as i, Find one that needs the least cosmetic work yourself, and then get it expected by a specialist to confirm the oily bits.
A 9-10k car that needs 2k of paint, 1k cam belt service and 1k clutch/manifold etc...
...will probably be not as well looked after than the 14k car you could have bought with the same money
Probably.

I paid 8.5K for my SE 12 months ago and since then have spent about 3K on it with another 2 or 3 left in paint and leather work, most of this is parts as the work is done by myself. It’s about what I expected.
Do you get air-con in a GT3? I cant imagine a Stevens body and glass roof without it, it gets very hot in there!
Also the GT3 is slower, but I don’t know if that would be an issue.
