Any suggestions where I can purchase a new exhaust which will help my V8 sound like a proper V8

Hey Ernest, last night I played that clip you made of you backing out and revving her up with the Tubi, sounds wicked man!

Thanks...

The Tubi is a good alternative (polished stainless construction, better build quality, etc, etc). The best part about it is that it is a low rumble when idling but makes a nice sound at full chat.

At $ 1800US, however it has a somewhat larger price point...

That is pretty pricey, but I suppose it all equates to the same amount and in the long run costs less then replacing the Lotus one as often as it cracks no?

I took my 99 v8 to a local muffler shop. They removed the very heavy exhaust and ran a straight pipe with a chrome tip straight from the back of the cats. The car runs great, sounds great and this cost me $100.

That doesn't sound quite right. It is one straight pipe on each side. Straight back from the cat to the same position as the original exhaust tip on each side.

copy of a post i made last week on the uk yahoo list:

"RE: Can anybody recommend an exhaust system for 99 V8"

Depends what you want to spend. What have you got on right now?

If you have a stock v8 exhaust then an upgrade to the lotus sports exhaust is a good move. Won't invalidate any warranty you might have on the car, looks "factory", sounds good. Can be prone to cracking but Kato says lotus have fixed this problem now. If it does crack it can be easily fixed.

Straight pipes, e.g. Quicksilver do away with the rear silencer all together. Not expensive - £200ish i think from memory? I found this a bit too noisy.. www.quicksilverexhausts.com/
Apparently Chris Neils also do a similar system. You need to be aware though that a large reduction in weight at the rear of the car may affect ride height/handling. I made my own for about forty quid - not hard to do.

I have a PUKesprit system on my car now which is a better sound than a lotus sports exhaust (IMO) and better quality construction. Its more expensive than a lotus system at £800. Same format as a lotus system so no issues with changes to underbody aerodynamics etc.
www.pukesprit.de/ There are a few sound clips on that site of my car.

Stebro also do a V8 system www.stebro.net/stwc.htm, as do
TUBI, uk suppliers: www.scuderiasystems.com/index2.htm . These
are both expensive systems but both come with lifetime guarantees.

There's also a new one i've only become aware of recently - not see or heard a system but the price is good and the quality of their work looks excellent:
www.larinisystems.com These guys quoted me £396 for esprit v8.

Last but not least, there's D&T in Aus. These guys also do hi-flow cats too.. www.dtperformance.com.au/esprit.htm

Moto-Concept also have a few options, including a 2003/usa stylee system:
www.moto-concept.de/en/autos/lotus/esprit/artikel_esprit.php?
item_sgrp_nr_e=Stainless-Steel-Sys.&item_grp_nr_e=Esprit

N.B. their "supersound" system is same as the puk system.

www.ramspott-brandt.de/ Also list a system for the v8.

Hope that helps.
cheers
Rob

Bingo:

Take the path of going to straight pipes after the cat. It's inexpensive and it sounds good. One note look into a resonator tip. Helps the rattle a little.
