Just seen this news item on Autoblog http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/21/goodwood-headin...
Is this true?
and
Why?
Why not be content with having a unique event rather than two. Are they going to build a replica of the Goodwood estate in China?
So True or False

Why aren't Ferrari content with themselves...? after all, they've won loads of F1 titles..
Why does Apple keep on producing nwe versions of everything they make?

Everyone needs to remember that Goodwood is a business and we're just trying to expand and improve like other companies...

Shouldn't be a problem for anyone..

OK, so you are saying that Ferrari is like Goodwood.
Hmmm so what you are saying is Goodwood is a brand that can be exploited like Ferrari.
I look forward to the barbie doll version of Lord March very soon then and also the Goodwood House alarm clock with the sound of horses running up the hill.
Apple also don't exploit their image they protect it whereas Ferrari has diluted its brand I feel by making it seem quite cheap.
They also make things whereas Goodwood is an event not a manufacturer( of cars at least livestock yes and some very nice beer, and Rolls Royce doesnt count as it is BMW), different thing really.

Goodwood FOS and Revival is a good event but why does it have to replicated to somewhere where Lord March has no history or relevance. Goodwood is about the Estate and Lord March families history of sporting competition.
It is like the MINI Goodwood edition for China trimmed by Rolls Royce (sic)!!!
I know why you are doing it "£" but long term image wise for Goodwood I dont think so.
Just my thoughts from someone who is local to Goodwood and has supported and uses all the events (not just motor racing)and shops.

No.. What I’m saying is what I’ve said above and I won't be drawn into an online debate about it.. I really don't see the harm in expanding our business overseas. It can only benefit us (I mean everyone who visits Goodwood, not just those who work here) in the long term. Lord March is hugely protective about our brand, which has been built up in a very short space of time, and would not do anything to compromise it. China has one of the fastest growing economies at the moment and their appetite for European cars and culture is huge. The likes of Porsche, Ferrari and BMW etc have all branched out recently and have started producing products for the emerging markets such as China, India and Russia. Whilst they may not appeal to their traditional customers - it doesn't mean they will stop producing products which will - please see all the fuss about the latest 4.0 GT3 RS - their best yet apparently.. Cars like this are made possible by the additional income raised from their new business areas.

Let's try and see the positives rather than potential negatives all the time... It makes for a much happier day!

OK J keep your hair on!!!...I was only asking if it was a good thing or not following reading an article about it.
I detect twice in your tone that it is a tricky subject which no one wants to discuss at the moment. As for being positive rather than negative I was thinking that we should preserve our nations heritage rather than exporting everything that makes us what we are and that includes Goodwood FOS and Revival....
The positives are that it will bring revenue into Goodwood plc
I thought on lighter note that the barbie doll or action man of Lord March might sell well in Shanghai Keep Smiling and have a profitable summer byebye..............

Its great to see that they have chosen a country with such a long & established motor sport history.

Typical Goodwood really, Pity the average chinese will never be able to pay the extortionate rates that Goodwood will demand!

They have lots of millionaires & may end up having the highest worldwide demand for cars very soon.

I had an informal interview with a senior member of the Goodwood Competitions Department a couple of years back. There was an implication then that possible future expansion might include events abroad, although what/how/where/when/why wasn't discussed in any detail.

Personally I don't see how something 5000 miles away could affect my enjoyment of events I love in the UK, but let's see.

Surely anything that helps keep Goodwood commercially viable is a good thing?

The only thing we know about the future is that it will be exactly the same as today, only more expensive. Therefore businesses have to explore new markets and new opportunities. It would be recklessly myopic to stand still.

If Goodwood take their brand to new markets, we should applaud that. It can only serve to help and improve HQ! smile

I wonder if Beijing County Council (!) will try to limit their activities as Goodwoods local council do? I doubt it - they'll be welcomed with open arms.

I guess as the Goodwood FoS and Revival are now international brands, something like this was on the cards. I don't really see any problem with it. Lord March is a petrolhead like the rest of us and China is where the money is these days. Lets export one of our products out there.
Now all we need is cheap flights for GRRC members ! wink
