Goodwood gets busier every year so it's worth sharing recent experiences.
I'm going to the Revival for 3 days with OH. No way will get there before traffic builds AND leave after it's cleared all 3 days.
especially with extra dressing! so we'll definitely do 1 or 2 half days.
So, my questions are: when can you enter late and pretty much drive straight in? (ok 15 mins traffic) I'm guessing way after noon?
How late can you leave it to leave BEFORE exit traffic is bad? I'm guessing 4pm
How late is after the event that traffic has cleared? 8pm?

Thanks for your 2012 FoS updates on this.

It all depends where your coming from (I apologise, too lazy to click profile when at work) and which way you come in!

I work about a mile away, and everyone coming past, complaining of queues etc. I havent queued everytime Ive visited, and didnt que when arriving at work at half 8 fri and sat, and 10 on sunday.

The lanes are your friend, and a bit of local knowledge!

I always come cross country (from Basingstoke) via midhurst and over the trundle, past the horse racing course and into the car park that brings you into the formula one paddock- its 20 miles longer for me to come M3, M27, A27 but potentially takes the same time (but obviously not, with the queues). Got to goodwood at 7.30am on sat and no problems getting in- left at 2 and no problems

FOS on Saturday we did OK.

Left SW London at 06.00 and was parked by 07.20, straight in.

Left Goodwood at about 18.30 and spent approx 20mins in a bit of traffic which then cleared.

We had no traffic problems at all.

In at 7 each morning with no traffic.

Friday and Saturday it took us around 20 minutes getting out (left around 6/7 ish) and on Sunday we just drove straight out at 8 in the evening.

Over the years I have learnt to avoid the A27 unless using it to leave the area well before 5pm. I vary the arrival route on occassion but have found the cross country route from my part of the world suits me: M25 (on at junction 30), M23, A23, A272 and then A285. Usually only get a little snarled up at Petworth where the 272 and 285 meet but then it clears up once you are out the other side.

Bottom line is to aim to arrive c8:30 whilst avoiding the A27 biggrin

Coming from the west the A27 was bad at 0900 on Saturday - 90 minute queue starting just west of Chichester.

I'd be willing to bet that it was fine at 0800, though.

Leaving at 1845 the same route was clear as a bell.

West A27 is bad on a normal weekend, I've queued for 30-45mins+ on a normal Sat morning in summer, it's a really bad road, it should never have had so many roundabouts on what is such a major coastal route.........don't blame Goodwood, blame the Highways Agency!

Coming in on Sat from the A286 at 8.45-ish I sat in stationary traffic for a good 25 mins, in total it took about an hour to do the couple of miles from the A286 to the car park. I left at about 17.30 on Sat and had no problems whatsoever getting out.

Left slightly earlier on Sunday and had no issues at all, flew through and didn't queue at all. I left about 18.00-ish on Sunday, took about 10 mins to get out of the car park but the roads around Goodwood towards the A286 were empty.

Figured out this year (after going for the past 20) that it was quicker to turn left at Singleton south on the A286, then hack across country to Petersfield and pick up the A3 - absolutely no traffic at all! It will be my new route for the coming years!!

I would try and avoid going through petworth (where the A272 and A283 meet) as its got a little one way system and the roads were not built for that much traffic. I drive through Petworth in the other direction on my commute and on the Friday and Saturday there must have been a mile of stationary traffic out of Petworth on the A283 towards Godalming.

Saturday around 7.15 am the A27 was completely clear approaching from Arundel but the queue from the Portsmouth side went back all the way along the Chichester bypass.
(I wasn't going to FOS, heading to Somerset for classic club AGM, not sure why they arranged it the same weekend as the FOS though!?)
