Chaps

Mrs Arese and I are considering going down to the FoS for the Saturday, and we've never been before. I've just been on the website and it would appear that the tickets are £50 each yikes for the one day. Is that correct or am I doing something wrong, like clicking on 'Free entry for life' or something? We're keen to attend, but it'll mean a 500-mile round trip (£60 petrol), hotel (£100), tickets (£100). Not a cheap weekend!

Maybe I'm missing the whole point of the festival and need to go back on the website and see what it's all about. What kind of time would you recommend getting there on the Saturday morning?

Cheers

Remember thats only general admission, if you want a seat in the grandstand it will cost you more, its an expensive day but imho worth it.

Normal advice is to get there early and leave late.

Just to mention, that if you're still just considering it, pretty much every hotel/guest house/B&B within striking distance will be booked.
If you can find somewhere, overnight on the friday night and arrive as the gates open at 7.30ish.
You will need the whole day and more to see everything, but it will be worth every penny.....

Thanks Gents. I think you've sold it to me. We'd be driving down on the Friday night after work and probably try and stay in either Brighton or Portsmouth, and then more than happy to get my arse out of bed and get there for 7.30. I wouldn't want to miss anything!

Is there a list of what is actually going on for each of the 3 days, I'll probably be at Henley for one of them, but fancy Goodwood as have never been. However, I'd like to know what events are happening on each day and I can't see anything ont eh website.

Is it possible to see anything of teh hillclimb if you have general admission tickets or do you have to be in the grandstand?

I had the same issue as you. The website seems to be very busy, without actually telling you what's going on. Unless I'm just a mong and couldn't find it.

No need for a grandstand, they provide free ones which (in my opinion) give a great view but just don't cover you if it rains!. Each day is the same really, obviously if you're a Hamilton fan or Button fan they're on a different day (Saturday and Sunday) but generally all the days are the same, but i'll warn you one thing, you won't see it all in one day smile

Well, there are a lot of people there so viewing from trackside a bit iffy near the main house, but further up the hill is pretty ok. Absolute MUST SEE is the rally stage at the top of the hill. Awesome beyond belief - Sebastian Loeb in the Citroen last year just kept going round and round, he LOVED it, AND they're really going for it, no pussyfooting!

Doesn't matter which day you go, all are good, but the big names (Hamilton, Button etc) tend to only do the Sunday.

I remember seeing Loeb beat the rally stage record time and time again!. Just pounding round cloud9

£260 is an awful lot of money though. I thought last year was a bit of a let down to be perfectly honest. If it weren't for the free Friday tickets (fingers crossed for this year) I'm not sure I'd want to shell out that amount?
It's sad that most show entry fees are getting a bit silly these days. There comes a point where people simply aren't willing to spend so much money just to get through the gate, only to be fleeced with ridiculously overpriced food and a poor overall show. Oh, and [rant mode on] not to mention the twits with SLR cameras who tut at you when you try and get close to the vehicle they're trying to take a picture of...sorry old chap - but I'm genuinely interested in cars [unlike you who just want to show off to your imaginary friend on the Internet when you get home] and if I want to bury my head in the engine bay I shall...so fark orf.

Thanks guys, presumably they publish a list of the activites that are going on the times that they happen do they? Is it possible to get hold of a copy before going so you can plan what to see in advance?

cars go up in batches and all batches run once in the morning and once in the afternoon.rally stage is brilliant.no need for grandstand as you can normally get trackside when people move away at the end of each batch.open section near the finish line is usually good vantage point with free grandstand most f1 etc do burnouts there as well as other pionts on the course.food is quite expensive but you can always byo and bring big memory card for camera

We don't publish the running order beforehand - no-one would buy our programmes!

Brighton is miles out of the way (about 30), it's about an hours drive without the Goodwood traffic you will encounter on the way. Best to stick to Portsmouth/Fareham way, as it's just a jaunt down the A27 (?) and Goodwood is at the end of it. You will get stuck in traffic at some point unless you are super early (I normally get there for 6.30/7am on the Friday), but you will get stuck in a lot more if you come from Brighton.

Others may disagree, but I would say Pompy way is your best bet.

Like others have said though, everywhere is pretty rammed as far as accomodation goes frown

One more thing, I would say one day is nowhere near long enough to cram it all in, I normally go all 3 days and still find I have missed something at the end of it frown If you go up to the rally stage for example, you may as well write off at least half the day if you want to take it all in properly.....

I usually go about half way up the hill, where the tractors to the rally stage leave from - there is a section of track just past the flint wall where the track is slightly above the surrounding ground so you dont get impeded by hay bales, and there is a small free grandstand there too.

The first runs (supercars) are usually about 9am so if you get there early there is time to look round the paddocks a bit before the runs start - and you dont usually need to grab a spot and hold onto it - The only place I have seen that to be a problem is beside the Drivers Club, where the professional autograph hunters stake it out ready to get their wares on ebay as soon as possible and the real fans get shoved aside!!!

I have got caught by the autograph ebayers as well - I think they should limit it to one signed item each.

I come in every day from Brighton, via Steyning, Storrington, Amberley, Fontwell - avoids the Worthing/Arundel jam.
