Loads, have a walk around rather than planting yourself to one spot.
Outside Goodwood house is normally my favourite.

And really really make the effort to get up to the rally stage at the top - absolutely fantastic close up action from loads of places. Awesome stuff.

I'd agree with that, did the rally stage for the first time last year, and it was one of the highlights for me.

Never been to FOs, can you do both the hillclimb and the rally in one day?

Yes

Best free grandstand is at the top off the hill, after the wall. When the hillclimb is quiet or between runs, turn around and watch the rally stage hairpin or the Bowlers going nuts over the jumps.

I normally find top off track is best on grass bank below Bowler wildcat area. Get a good view of cars being chucked through quick bend after the house and then hurled up the straight before start of the wall. Rally area also not far away + beer close by. Personally don't understand watching part way down a long straight as you don't see much in the way of car control. That said anywhere at Goodwood is as good as it gets.

IMO though, not so much viewing point but its nice to here the cars being driven hard from a stand still.

as others have said though theres plenty of good fre viewing points, i would also recommened just before the seated area passed the white goodwood bridge on your way up the hill.

It is a bloomin' long way to the rally stage so take advantage of the 'bus' service (tractor !) to get up there and save some valuable time that you can use to try and see everything (which is near impossible)

Wouldn't bother with the tractors myself as there is always a bloomin long queue for them and you don't get to walk around the forest stage on the way up. Walking up the hill only takes about ten minutes max so you won't miss to much and you get to hear all the sounds.

Ten minutes !! Did you run hehe

Took me about half an hour.....probably more.

It was quicker for me to wait for the tractors smile

For me, the day isnt all about the track action. Lots happening 'off track'

My suggstions
- Get there early (7am when the gates open) and get into the Formula 1 paddock and have a good look round as this will be realy busy later
- Check out the F1 cars, you may be able to be there when they 'warm' them up yikes I for one have never been as close to a F1 car as I have at Goodwood...amazing
- Go to the front of the house to check out the 'sculpture'....you'll know what I mean when you are there!
- Head down behind the house for the supercar paddock (go earlyish as iirc the first run is normaly the supercars)lots of interesting machines...lots of Veyrons' last year yes
- by the supercar paddock is also the cathedral paddock. well worth a visit, mixture of old machines...some very old! (I hope the Napier Railton is there this year...was by it when they started it a few years back rotate)
- Lots of places to watch the track action from...always a good view from where ever. Last year they had a new viewing platform by the start (over the footbridge which iirc was a hospitality area before) quite interesting to see some of the starts. Check out up the hill as well - as others have suggested.
- Rally stage is a must. opened up a lot more viewing there now so can get 'inside' the track. The jump is always good (be careful here though as once inside, they don't open the crossing point back out again until the end of each segment - you may miss other stuff on the hill if you popped in for a quick look) - as others have mentioned - take the Tractor ride up to the top! Once I thought the queue was 'to long' and thought it would be quicker to walk...how wrong I was and I was knackered! I like the gentle stroll back down (avoiding the tree roots!)
- The holding area at the top - good for spoting drivers and also seeing the cars again. I have never been here for the F1 cars...often think it would be good when the arrive and then start again to go back down.
- Oh and don't miss the F1 cars on the hill....you will see why not!
- If you are in the F1 paddock when the F1 cars come back down the hill, stand by the gate to the track (normaly beside one of the F1 trucks) and then you will be right next to them when they come into the paddock....
- Check out the cricket pitch...always a good display

Gone on a bit here, but I hope this will give you a few ideas for your visit.

You will have a great day whatever you do, I for one don't stay still for long as I like to look at as much as I can however, if you stayed in one spot you will have a great time!!
After 6+ years of going, it still amazes me the machines and people they get there. No other event in the world (probably) lets you as close to the cars and the drivers...it really is a great event.
