The Moving Motor Show
Discussion
Well, I crossed the bridge and entered The Moving Motor Show.
Wish I hadn't bothered really, what a pile of poo and a very poor turnout from the manufacturers that were exhibiting in the 'tent'. Mid afternoon there must have been, ooh, 50 other people in the tent and most of those were staff. One woman on the Merc stand was so bored she had her mobile hidden in a book so she could text as there was nothing to do.
I love FOS and think Lord March has done a wonderful job with his motoraport events, but to bill the motor show as 'A rival to the British Motor Shoe', is quite frankly laughable.
Please remove it unless you can do a better job next year.

You do realise the Moving Motorshow bit was really all on Thursday when you actually (if invited) got to drive a car up the hill. I took an Evora up.
If that's the case, why still have it open today and make it look pretty awful and dull?Didn't inspire me to book to go along next year!

That is the case.
It was still open today as it was more cars to look at, and why close it when there's a massive tent full of cars that people may want to look at.
Many of the cars in there weren't around the rest of the festival, the Porsches for example and the Abarths.
True there was a massive tent, not sure there were lots of cars to look at.It was still open today as it was more cars to look at, and why close it when there's a massive tent full of cars that people may want to look at.

Just thought it looked rather like and after-thought and a bit poor.

That's probably true unfortunately, but then I suppose most of the manufacturers concentrated more on their main tents. On the Thursday there was probably at least 5 of each car being taken out but most of those will have probably gone back to their dealers or something as they wouldn't be doing much use there.
Coming back to crash on the Thursday where the guy crashed the Honda by fainting, having visited the building on Friday I can't say I wasn't at all surprised.
It was roasting hot in there and it was supposed to have been even hotter on the Thursday. Add in the extra people and the exhaust fumes & it makes me very glad I didn't go. What it must have been like for the poor buggers working all day in there, gawd knows.
Lord March very rarely makes mistakes but this was one of them. To make it even slightly bearable for all involved a radicial rethink needed for next year methinks.

It was very hot in there yesterday and the place was almost deserted. It must have been an oven when full of visitors and cars moving around. It was roasting hot in there and it was supposed to have been even hotter on the Thursday. we didn't bother with the car show, all booked up and too hot, they only seemed to do a couple of runs as well, why not all day? I was actually interested in buying a car, but couldn't get anywhere near so didn't bother going back, just as well as it seems.
We just went around all the rest of the show which was great, no people! Went on the cayenne driving experience, had to queue up for about 3 mins, then the bowler ride 1 min queue, tractor rides to and from the car park 2 mins wait! it was great - and free. Very strange to be there with no crowds, but a great (free) day out! Lemans classic next week which is a fantastic event - like the revival but better and bigger and more racing.

Were the Cayenne's free? And the Bowlers, free too? Did you drive the Cayenne's or just pax? We just went around all the rest of the show which was great, no people! the moving motor show was on thursday only had you read the event details correctly. i agree that it was hot in the tent on thursday however it was the first event of its kind so for most involved it was a case of 'suck it & see'.
mistakes were made - mainly by the goons in the high-viz jackets who seemed totally incapable of organising things properly.
on wednesday there were clearly defined pedestrian footways clearly marked on the floor because it was realised that moving cars & members of the public dont always mix well together. however on wednesday night some imbecile removed the tape that marked the walkways.
why? no-one was really sure.
the incident was just one of those things although details were somewhat sketchy after the car veered off into the side of the tent.
lessons will be learnt & i am suprised that there appears to be a lot of negativity about the event.
hopefully it will be back next year with the lessons learnt last thursday put into place. the obvious one is to line up the cars that are to be driven outside & away from the public viewing area. no doubt that has already been thought of so lets see what next year brings.
i think that, in general, the moving motor show was an excellent idea & i hope it runs for many years.
praise should be given to those brave enough to organise the show & to those who attended & exhibited their cars.

I went on Thursday.
Drove up the hill in a car and looked at all the stuff you just cant fit in or get close to on the normal days. Then went Friday and had plenty of time to watch cars and look at more cars.
The R8s seem to be out in force on thursday.
I got free tickets to both days and stuck the van in the pub for a tenner. Thanks Daily mail and Lord March for the free tickets and the Pub for cheap accomodation and a loverly breakfast and evening meal.
