Revival or FOS

Considering going to my first Goodwood event next year. Just wondering which event people would recommend and why?

It's impossible to compare the two - they are both so different. It depends what you like to see.... Classic racing and the best 'period' sideshows anywhere or all the the latest supercars - historic cars - F1 cars running up the dill mostly in 'demo' mode along with the opportunity to look at all cars in the paddocks + the rally stage.

why not buy the dvd for both events (FoS 2010 out now and Revival 2010 available for pre-order) and make your own mind up? I guaruntee you'll have an excellent day out whichever you choose. All you'll get from here is an opinion from people who prefer one particular event for their own reasons.

It might have been better to include a 'They're both as good as each other' option in the vote..

Me - I voted for Revival... But FoS is excellent too!

my opinion changes from year to year this year i thought festival was better but last year it was the other way around, both excellent though

Surely it depends on what you love the most. If you want to see cars from all forms of motorsport from the earliest to the latest, supercars, watch rally cars and see jensen Button et al up close then it has to be Festival. If old cars, motorbikes and planes, dressing up (optional but worth it), Spitfire's and seeing some of the best motor racing action anywhere are your bag then its Revival. I don't try and decide which is best I just go to both on all the days, never get bored, never want to miss it ever, always get thoroughly knackered and love it all! Whatever you do you won't regret it.

i love both events so have to go to both every year, seeing as im a member it would definatley be considered a crime if i didnt.

For me, the FOS win's every time, but My Mrs will tell you the opposite, it reall does depend on what floats your boat.

In my case, it's the Rally Stage and F1 cars going up the hill....

I guess it depends on your age to a certain extent. For me it has to be revival.

I love going to FOS, one of the best events of the year.

I did the revival for the first time last year and I'm not sure if I'll go back to be honest.
The racing was great and really enjoyable to see such classic bikes and cars go head to head.

But the childish dressing up was just naff. I just felt embarrased for some of the people who had thrown on an RAF uniform or an old 1950's suit, got drunk and started pretending to be whatever in an attempt to be funny.
Some of the costumes were pretty good and you could see that the owners had researched the times and look, put effort in. Unfortunatly others had just raided mummy's dressing up box.

Well I think you are missing the point of the whole revival thing. Join in, be part of it. I felt more embarrased for those who turned up without any attempt. There are of course a minority of prats, but I suspect they would be prats dresed in their dressing gowns!

I love both events but one thing that swings it - ever so slightly - to the FOS is the access levels. There are no restrictions with regard to getting close to the cars at the FOS whilst at the Revival they are sectioned off and unless you have a Paddock Pass and the correct attire (blazer, tie etc) then you're not getting near them.

It's a niggly thing I know but the proximity to the cars is what makes the FOS the winner, in my book at least.

Equally I found the tattooed, shirtless types wandering round getting drunk at the FOS embarrassing and naff. I guess it's just people enjoying themselves in their own way but it goes to show that it's each to their own.

i do both and have done for years but i prefer FOS (2days is a must) but the wife prefers Revival because of the fashion

Don't get me wrong, I agree that the tattoed lager lout type that also goes to FOS taints the day slightly.

I guess it proves what a wonderful event FOS is when the only complaint is regarding a small minority 'fellow show goers'.

Forgetting the dress codes, the FOS still gets my vote as it's great to see the modern stuff race up the hill.
And the Rallying stage is terrific.

In fact thanks to the blasted rally stage I have since spent £2500 on camera and lenses and I will go for two days this year, one of them just to stalk the rally stage.

Make sure you keep you new camera and lenses well covered,or you could end up spending a few hundred quid getting all the dust cleaned out afterwards.

One of the reasons I gave up marshalling at the FOS, the type of 'public' had changed a lot from the early days of the event, and it was starting to became a chore rather than an enjoyable experience.

I much prefer the Revival now, but it suits my interest in that period as much as the racing etc.
FOS has a much greater variety of course and I'd still recommend a newbie to give both a try and see for themselves though.
