GRRC - March News email

Just had the latest email through this afternoon and reading through the various events on offer, I could't help but wonder I've accidentally ended up on the VIP newsletter for people with bottomless pockets.
Whilst a fully inclusive trip to Modena, a trackday in Dijon and a shoot on the Goodwood Estate all sound like jolly good fun, where are the events for the Club's many not-so-affluent members? How about a factory tour of a UK-based F1 team (it's not like there aren't many to choose from) that members can just drive to rather than have to fly halfway across Europe? Or a driving holiday that doesn't involve staying in luxury hotels and fine dining?
I know that the Goodwood Estate is prestigious and the GRRC is probably not looking to 'lower the tone' too much but there just doesn't seem to be much on offer to the normal motoring enthusiasts who probably make up the significant majority of the Club's membership. So come on guys, how about democratising the social calendar a little bit? I'd like to feel like there is something I can take advantage of to justify the cost of the membership each year.

Did you read what you get for the money though? It's one of the pricier trips, but WOW, what a trip. If it wasn't for the "cheques only" bit, I'd be tempted. It's typically Goodwood, in that it costs a bit, but Jesus, what a trip. There are other options on the mailing that aren't such a ball squeeze.
I agree that all of the trips organised by the GRRC look fantastic. I just wish that they would use their obvious clout to organise something really unique that wasn't so financially prohibitive. As already mentioned, a UK-based F1 team factory tour or something in conjunction with the Porsche Exeperience at Silverstone or Merc at Brooklands where members can attend a 'special' event and meet with other members and enthusiasts without the very pricey travel and accomodation which accompanies the existing schedule of events.

They did a trip to the Porsche centre, in conjunction with the GAC, a couple of years ago. I went, it was a brilliant day out and included the world aerobatic championships finals, and the qualifying for the BTCC round at Silverstone.James P said:

James, Give us a ring at the office and we can check your email is correct. You should also make sure that you have our email (grrc@goodwood.com) in your contacts or address book so it doesnt end upin your spam or junk boxes. If you want to PM me, i will reply with the latest copy of e-news, It's pretty much the same as the letters you receive but with pictures and sometimes more content..and it arrives earlier.Cheers,

The GRRC sticker won't help you with parking at the breakfast club. Breakfast club is a GRRcompany affair, we are with the GRRclub, which is a totally different entity. It would be worth asking JGoodwood about extra stickers, or emailing / phoning the club. I'm fairly sure they don't allow extra stickers, because of issues it could cause with forward parking arrangements at the FOS / Revival.Or can you get (buy) more.???????????????

You don't buy them, just ring up the GRRC office and they will send you one, but don't take the p*** by ordering loads. Unfortunately the sticker does nothing for you at Breakfast Club as it is not run by the GRRC. The only thing that gets you into the track/paddock/gravel area is an intersting car or car on the theme for the month. There have been calls for a GRRC parking area but whilst James has tried they haven't come up with a solution yet.

Hi,I didn't really want to get drawn into this one again as it's all been discussed here recently but we do have plenty of events set at all prices. Some events are free, some subsidised and some are very expensive but they are all popular. For instance, the trip to Italy in June sold out in 1 day! Track days start at a little over £150, the Open Day is free, we introduced a cheaper alternative driving tour which is UK based and 1/3 of the cost of the euro tours. All the evnts we run are done so at cost (i.e. no profit made by the Club) in an attempt to keep them accessible to as many people as possible.
What we won't ever do is offer 'off the shelf' products or events which anyone can attend whether they are a Member or not - there would be no point or benefit to anyone in doing that. Our events are all very very special and all offer extra things which we only have access to because of our great connections. Anyone can book themselves onto a track day at Spa but very few people can enjoy the day with hot laps in a GT3 with people such as Jochen Mass, Derek Bell, Richard Attwood etc etc etc at no additional cost!
For info, we always provide a trip to an F1 factory each year (as part of a prize) and there is also an additional trip to the Hawthorn Musuem planned for July - details of this will follow. We also have two talks planned for this year at Goodwood House (less the £20 each).
The other problem we face is that - when we have created a much cheaper event - we don't get enough take-up to make them viable. It's a very difficult situation we're in - trying to please everyone all the time!

Thanks, appreciate your reply. And I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I think a UK-based F1 factory tour would be a really fantastic event that would enable members to see a real additional benefit to their membership for not a lot of extra cash. If you do organise one in the future, put me down for a ticket.J
I went on the factory tour to McLaren last year and it was amazing but there are only so many times the teams like to let clubs in and Mclaren don't let hardly any clubs in (thought they do tours for sponsors quite a lot). I would be happy to go and see Prodrive's base, J M Stokes outfit or perhaps Twyman racing's workshops.
