Does anyone else obsessively log their cycling? I´m currently using bikejournal for a distance league one forum, mycyclinglog for two others, Sporttracks to store my GPX files locally, and ridewithgps to store them online.

I suspect if I got a power meter, I´d spend more time looking at data than riding... Damn, I really want a powertap hub.

Anyone else love data? What do you use? Any interest in a PH mileage league on mycyclinglog?

I use Garmin Connect for my Garmin data and Cardiotrainer which is a superb free Android app

League table good idea but as a married man with young family I have no intention of competing smile

Funnily enough I was just thinking that one of the guys I ride with now and again does 400km a week on a Pinarelloo and wears it like a badge of honour

We chatted about plans post ride a while ago - I was off to take the kids riding
His kids were still on stabilisers - his eldest is 9

Says it all really

Yes I log all the training rides I do on my Garmin 705 and I'm constantly looking at the data for reference! Brilliant piece of kit.

I record mileage, avs speed, weather conditions, the bike used and how I felt on/after the ride, but nothing as sophisticated as you guys.

I just have it in a self-written program that gives me cute little charts and a bit of analysis/planning. In true anorak mode the database has annual records going back to 1995 which sounds nerdy but is quite interesting to look back over the years comparing progress. (or not ! )

Yes, very sad. I should ride more instead.......

Only ridewithgps for rides longer than an hour and I don't log any hours on the turbo trainer at all (not real mileage lol)

For me (running background) there are two reasons you might want to collect lots of data:
  • It makes you feel good about the mileage you've done/effort you've put in.
  • To analyse and use to improve your training programs leading to better results.
One risk for those who only do the first one is that they'll overtrain in an attempt to hit some significant-sounding number (with running it's "100 miles per week" usually) rather than train smarter to improve performance. Of course, doing the big miles may be part of that smarter training but it shouldn't be the goal of the training.

I upload my Garmin data to Connect. I don't spend long looking at it - maybe I will in the dark winter nights. The most interesting numbers for me are elevation gain and total mileage for the year (1,318.77 miles since you asked wink ).

I do - every time I go out on the commute or a training ride I'll have my bluetooth hrm on and endomondo logging it all on the phone. When I get in I look at the data and see if how it felt tallies up with the performance, and every now and then I'll look at longer term trends. Case in point from the what training have you done today thread

me said:
25th Feb - 43m46 @ average heart rate of 129
16th May - 36m57 @ average heart rate of 115

For more context, thats 9.2 miles with 680ft of climbing on a road bike with pannier ~4kgs
