First road bike, Raleigh Pursuit?
Discussion
Hi everyone, i have been thinking about getting a road bike for a while now to get fit on. I dont know anything about them though. I have never had a road bike but i used to ride trials when i was younger. I have read through the topic about a road bike for £500 but i dont realy want to spend that much.
I have seen this on the net and the shop isnt far from me so i just wondered what people think

Bike will be used to increase my general fitness. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I wouldn't. A good bike at the cheap end of the market is this - http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/triban-3-173178017/
Looks ok for the price, but being unable to change gear on the drops would really annoy me.
I think you'll get much better value for money if you get something second hand. If you look on ebay or Bikeradar you should be able to get a 2 or 3 year old Specialized Allez (or similar) for around the kind of money you are looking to spend.

Decathlon is better in every way. Would advise putting another couple of hundred in the fighting fund though.
I was in your shoes 2 months ago and looked into quite a few bikes around the £300 mark. I finally, after reading reviews speaking to owners over the internet, speaking to a mate who owns the slightly older version decided on the decathlon triban 3, until I found some cash under the sofa and splurged on something which blew the budget from the water!
The mate I know who has the triban, also speaks very highly of the staff who sold him the bike, taking time to set it up for him and then service it after a year. And trust me when I say this guy, whilst lovely, is very particular.

I have sold two bikes this year, one was a newly built Ribble with full tiagra spec and only ridden once for £330 and the other was a brand new Bianchi nia virone on a sora spec, never ridden for £325!
There are good secondhand bikes out there and that is the way that i would go if i wanted another.

Put them up here if you're looking to shift any like that at that price. There are good secondhand bikes out there and that is the way that i would go if i wanted another.

Surely these prices are an exeption no? Was seriously interested in the bianchi but found nothing near that price. Please tell me it was a strange size and not a.55cm frame or I'll cry. There are good secondhand bikes out there and that is the way that i would go if i wanted another.
