Anyone else this year? If so I'm staying over Saturday as well so maybe a chance for a meet and coffee the day before the event?

Last year was enough for me, particularly those hill reps! Great event though. This year I'm focusing on the Hyde Park tri instead.

Yes, it's the 2012 olympic route. Should be good. I think you said you did London (Docklands), didn't you?

After last year's Windsor and Dambuster I decided Olympic distances were too far for my meagre training, so after this Hyde Park oly I'll just stick to the occasional local sprint.

Yup. First time at Windsor (though to be fair I spectated last year) Not sure about this "rack the night before, security is in place" malarky! But I shall be getting my massage on saturday (ooh err wink ) and recce the bike course too so not a complete waste of time that's making me miss the F1 Qualy, MotoGP Qualy and start of Le Mans laugh

Hope I'm not tempting fate by saying so but mine has been fine in there and I paid enough for it to make me nervous.... great thing is you can rack up relatively central and just make sure there are a few "specials" around so the thieves go for those... my black cervelo S3 amongst the stunning Cannondale Slices, Specialised Transition Pros and Trek TTX's is pretty stealthy and anonymous unless you know what you're looking at smile

If you're around Saturday and want to meet up at the Tri "show" near racking then PM me and I'll send you my mobile number.

Yep done London 3 times now and love it even if the run section is rather monotonous - the crowds and atmosphere make it.

Sprints are great - done properly they're a full on lung burster all the way, definitely not the "easy" option some people seem to think they are.

I'm heading toward half IM, and a marathon or two next year with IM the year after so need to keep the distances up really.

Eventual aim - I REALLY want to do the Marathon des Sables - now THAT is something to be proud of completing

I'm doing the sprint distance this year. It's my first triathlon and I'm doing it on a mountain bike so didn't want to commit to the full length! The bit I'm struggling the most with has been running after cycling. I'm sure it'll be ok on the day though. I watched last year and I could count on one hand the number of mountain bikes about so I figure if I overtake just one road bike I've won. hehe

Absolutely smile first time I overtook a drag hat wearing speed monster I had to physically restrain my glee!

This year my cycle legs are nowhere near as good as I need them so I reckon on 1h30 for the 40km

00:35:34 - Got passed by the leaders of the wave behind BEFORE the turn point! laugh
00:03:17 - Didn't like Swim Out platform! Got to my bike, did the wetsuit "dance" and then promptly went stupid dizzy. I seem to have forgotten how to take the suit off fast too! laugh
01:18:43 - I knocked my Cateye off and had to go back for it! ~2mins wink
00:02:01 - No feeling in my hands due to wet and cold. biggrin
01:00:57 - Had to keep stopping. I've been getting bad runners knee for a while. I "think" it's related to my Retul fit! Can do better. I did a half marathon in March and was fine so this is a new development. frown

03:00:32 - First OD. So room for improvement. Particularly the swim. Performance = Happy. smile

Overall though, as I said on TriTalk. I'm very disappointed with the organisation of Windsor and the lack of medals at the finish. Especially since I got one at Dorney last year and that was a smaller event.

Just for fun. http://www.tri247.com/triviewer/Windsor/WindsorOly...

Well I made it. These are the times. I should probably add that I did the bike stage on a mountain bike and thus it's quite slow.

I think the run works out at about 31 minutes. Had a sore left foot though and it was really swollen in the evening.

Went into the hospital today and it turns out it's possibly infected and definitely broken! The thing is I've hardly got a limp. I've been told to keep off it though and have been given crutches.

I did my left bike shoe up too tight rushing through transition and felt that it was sore but rode through it. Then I ran for half an hour on it. I now have a week of rest in front of me with my foot in the air before getting further instructions. Looks like I'm not doing the 3 peaks challenge next weekend then! frown

Oh yeah, no free t shirts! Gutted! They gave out free Toshiba water bottles but mine leaks so it's not all that useful really. We got a free "towel" but it looks like the kind of thing you get on a bar in the pub so, again, not that us... hang on, free pub equipment! I take it back, brilliant free swag!

A work colleague did this, clocking 2:59 iirc with a 31 minute swim time. I definately want to get involved, its just finding the time to train and recover without compromising my other activities..

hypothetical schedule is looking like

Monday
7am swim
cycle to and from work (19 miles round trip with a massive hill in the way)
2 hours karate in the evening

Tuesday
cycle to and from work
3 mile run at lunchtime
2 hours generic PT in the evening

Wednesday
7am swim
cycle to and from work
evening.. either climbing or kayaking, casual.

Thursday
cycle to and from work
2 hours karate in the evening

Friday
cycle to and from work
HIIT session @ lunchtime

Weekends.. whatever i'm doing for fun smile here's my sunday...

Does that seem like a plausible training routine? I could theoretically cycle every day and run every lunchtime, but the karate remains a fairly major focus that I wont compromise on at the moment.

I'd have a go. I'd want a road bike though I think. I didn't overtake a single person on the whole ride. In fact I was overtaken by some machine of a guy who was wearing a speedo and what appeared to be a single speed jump bike doing slow strokes that make him look like he was trying to start an old motorbike. He was overtaking everyone though!

I'll do another there even though it's expensive as I didn't have the chance to train as I'd like for this year so need to get next year's up to spec :-)

As for the training schedule posted... heavy focus on cycling there and I'd be tempted to say get at least one decent length ride in every 2 weeks (if not weekly)and dropping a commute cycle - commuting to work tends to be more interval-like with traffic lights and similar. Getting a 2h cycle in with varied terrain will really help.

Not enough running - especially for Oly distance. I'll usually do 2-3 10km runs a week then gym sessions for weight training will include a 5km run as a warm up then once a week intervals on the treadmill to get speed up.

If bike is 19miles round trip then I'd look at turning one of those cycles in to work to a run in to work then public transport home (making a big assumption you're in a town where that's possible)
