Went out with the club last night.
We all rode the mile or so from the ferry to where we meet and got ready to divide into ability groups. There was a crash and one of the senior riders hit the deck. There was a couple of doctors in the group who rushed over and couldnt find a pulse and no breathing... The 999 call was made.
CPR was started - I was surprised how "forceful" it was but I scraped a pass on my first aid course with the hope I would never have to use it.
A passing police car stopped and the helicopter was called. We all dispersed to clear space as about 50-60 riders makes it hard for a copter to land..
Found out this morning that he was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital - a massive heart attack.

Sorry to read this Kyle. 
As has been said, it'll be comforting for his family to know that he was surrounded by like-minded friends and didn't die with nobody being there for him. Have to agree that the thread-title is somewhat misleading considering the circumstances.

Someone from Jubilee was killed on the A351 last week on the Wareham r/about (although that was an RTA)... far too many cycling fatalities this year already.

I was on the Ride, wednesday night ride. A superb bunch and a superb shop. With a couple of days between me and the "incident" it has kinda settled in my head. It is just a bit of a shock when someone drops dead in front of you. Was this Poole Wheelers ?
Someone from Jubilee was killed on the A351 last week on the Wareham r/about (although that was an RTA)... far too many cycling fatalities this year already.

The guy who was killed on the '351 was Rob Jefferies - I had not met the guy but he was (amongst many other things) the shop mechanic for Charlie the Bikemonger.

There are reports that even on Robs memorial ride, motorists were verbally abusing his widow and daughter, demanding they "get off the road" and "cycle on the pavement"... it beggars belief.

Considering the number of cyclists in the Purbeck area I am totally amazed at the attitude of a large number of motorists to fellow road users. Main reason I gave up on road cycling. Get me off road and I am happy. Gooby said:

Not nice, but I doubt the motorists knew who they were or what the ride was about.amnesia182 said:

Agreed (I'm in Weymouth)On the other hand- considering the number of cyclists (locals and tourists) and our narrow roads for of speeding locals and tourists cars its amazing more of us don't get knocked down :-(
To the OP- Very sorry to hear about the acident and fatality, terrible.
CPR is a violent process, whats required on the annie in the classes isn't really as much as it needed in reality, ideally you want a EAD (these are located in lots of places now, its worth knowing where they are and how to use them)
The coast guard pilot was impressive. There is no space to land due to trees etc. He actually used the rotors as a tree trimmer by angling the rotors into the trees on both sides of the road. He did considerably cut back the greenery.
I doubt Mick could have had any better medical care if he had fallen in A&E. One of the Doctors was a local A&E consultant, there was also a GP and the guy who did CPR was a trained forces medic. All at his side withing 2-3 seconds of falling. I think he was dead as soon as he hit the floor....

A load of us roadies from work are out on Wednesday evening over the ferry and on to Swanage, Corfe and East Lulworth etc. Would like to join up if possible at some point to say hi and farewell to your buddy, especially if it includes a pint at the Bankes Arms ;-)Can you post details on here or email me when you know what's happening, please ?

We will meet the ferry (Haven side) at 18.20 then rendevous at the bus stop / layby at greenlands farm (first, large sweeping bend after you get off the ferry about a mile from the ferry). We get off road at this point. We usually try to be in the Sandacres Pub at 21.00 I will let you know if there is a change from this plan.
