I know they are not great wheels but the bike is only going to be a pub beater sort of thing.

My current wheels are that size! its an early 70's bike! would i have any problems if i was to buy some 700c wheels?
Thanks
You might be OK actually and it would make your life a bit easier...depends what brake mounts you have though, and you'll almost certainly need new brakes if you do go 700cc. Best to try some, a bike shop should be happy to help. Thanks
In terms of making those ones fixed, it's actually a screw on freewheel cassette hub, which can't be used with a fixed gear as there are no reverse lock ring threads - the description is wrong.
TBH you're going to have to do quite alot of work in terms of research finding the correct wheel, older bikes have different dropout spacings which could well cause you an issue. It's a bit of a minefield TBH, spend some time on Sheldon Brown (do a google search) and you should be a little bit wiser.
Personally I'd go for some 700cc wheels with new tektro or shimano long drop calipers, assuming you want to use brakes...
