I'd be worried about the legality of that bike at competitions. Certainly anything UCI sanctioned and you might suffer at ITU age group events too.

Hi Rich, well i was concerned about this and checked the event i'm doing in September

http://www.thelondonduathlon.co.uk/index.php?optio...

You must register and rack your bicycle at the time provided in the Event Information, which we will issue 30 days before the Event.
You are responsible for providing a roadworthy bicycle and helmet which comply with BTF rules and regulations.

Seems my bike is OK for national events

Cheers

How stiff are bikes like that, which are effectively missing the bottom tube between the headset and the bottom bracket?

Sorry if it's a silly question, I just haven't seen one like that before.

It's a funny looking thing. TBH I can't decide whether it's really beautiful or exceedingly ugly. hehe

It must be good other wise no one would make a bike that ugly.

If you're keeping that "dinner-plate-sized" front chain-ring on, take the dérailleur of, and save some weight and some dirty air. (You'll also need some pedals.) smile

I love looking at stuff like that, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy riding it...

I was going to stick an extra ring on the bike but see how i get on, might need to if the pins struggle. I've purchased a set of SpeedPlay Titanium pedals and some Lake CX330's, cracking kit.

But yes, if i have no issues regards that ring i'll whip off the dérailleur bar and gear-change bits.

Not rode it yet but told it's very fast.

It may be worth keeping the front mech on to help ensure the chain stays on the ring - or at least have a few test rides without the mech to ensure that the chain doesn't jump off.

I used to have a Dunlop Hotta mountain bike, very similar in appearance. Loved riding it about, very responsive. Some nasty piece of work robbed it from my garage - I hope their head has festered

Rode it this weekend, very fast and very much a racing machine, harsh with no creature comforts!, no problem with large ring biggrin

would be interesting to ride one for a while then jump on a ceepo viper or a cervelo p4 for comparison. a lot of testing and develpoment has taken place since it was released so it would be nice to try and feel a difference but you would need to be able to lay down some serious watts to really notice....

anyway, its still legal for tri/duathlons. for UCI events, the bike must have a two triangle frame configuration and for ITU (and hence BTU rules), pretty much anything still goes so its fine.

I'm thinking of taking up TT serious next year and dropping the running, seems age don't really effect the TT guys as much, but running is a young mans game and will never crack sub 35 10k's i dont think.

See how it goes, if i do get into this i'll purchase a modern bike, but from what i've read the Hotta still beats them all!

What do you race in? running/bike or both

both, happier on the bike but dont mind running. i have a rubbish swim technique so i dont really do triathlons as i cant be arsed learning proper techniques so i stick to run/bike/runs which are obviously a fair bit easier on the practical side and there are a few good series local to me.

loads of info and advice on www.timetriallingforum.co.uk there are an odd bunch but then so would you be if you did 12 hour tts....
