What road bike no.437 £800

I've trawled the ususal suspects and keep coming back to the Scott Speedster 40 from Pedalon, who with their points system allow me get shoes/pedals and a computer thrown in for nowt...

anything else I should be looking at...0% is a must really

if you like it go with the scott, its on the money in terms of spec and although there are hundreds out there at the same price, you are essentially paying for the name and the colour as the spec will vary little between them. so you may find one with a 105 rear mech or shifters..... manufacturers still rely on people getting obsessed with these tricks to hide all manner of poor components throughout the rest of the bike. the scott is pretty straight all round.

the podium points deals from pedalon are hard to ignore, expecially for first timers who can get everything they need for free.

if you stil like the scott, buy it. if you can stretch to a grand without too much fuss however, i would go for the cannondale. cannondale have been making the best alu road frames out there for the last 20 years and this is well specced given the current down turn in bike spec/vale over the last 3 years. its ultra stiff and a very fast bike to ride.

I know genesis do some pretty swish looking road bikes but have never seen any reviews so they may be rubbish

have 2 other bikes so trying to cut down.

I looked at the caad8 in evans today and it looks fantastic, however I may be biased as I'm loving riding my handmade caad9 at the minute.

Definitely Cannondale.

Best frame at the price bar none, and the kit is excellent value too.

You can get a Synapse or CAAD 8 for that price, try both and buy the one you like the most. Synapse is less aggressive geometry, CAAD slightly more. Both great frames.

Still at the "must see in flesh stage" but at this point it's: (in no particular order)

Cannondale Synapse Tiagra
Bianchi VIA Nerone 7 Xenon
Bianchi VIA Nerone 7 Tiagra (just)

These 4 allow me to get shoes and pedals within the Cyclescheme budget

The Caad8 105, Boardman Team etc etc at £999 have to be ignored now..( (unless the shops will do me a deal which is unlikely)

A random one in the mix - I had that budget and went for a Bottecchia Duello. Not many do them (on the 'net, only fatbirds I think) but my LBS had them and as such, fell in love with it

My local bike shop is Bikes Bikes Bikes in Gillingham, Kent. (they've no website to really speak of, barely a few products on there). It's probably 90 min drive to you, so if you're really interested it might be worth giving them a call, explaining what you want, and driving down? They'll happily let you take a couple out for a test ride, so bring helmet, shorts etc. It is a bit far, and I don't know if there are other places around that do them, but if you like the look it's worth a drive perhaps?
