will halfords ever sell fixed gear?
Discussion
(no I don't want to buy one from them).
Okay, I guess most of the people who buy fixed (for fashion or function) would do so from somewhere other than halfords. And I can understand Argos, Tesco etc not caring about their bike business enough to pay attention to the current fashion. And, as a big store, sorting out supply might be a bit cumbersome. But I'm still supplied - surely the current hipster craze for fixies has been around for long enough for them to have seen the profit potential? They're selling 29ers after all. So -will they? If so, when?
Also, if they did, would that signal the end of the fashion aspect, due to the immutable law that once something is sufficiently mainstream, it's no longer cool?

its been as mainstream as a cycling fad can be for a long while now. Okay, I guess most of the people who buy fixed (for fashion or function) would do so from somewhere other than halfords. I cant see halfords going to the effort to brand a fixie and i dont think it fits within the boardman brand either..... dont loose any sleep on it

it was trialed in the stand alone bikehuts the only one that sold much stuff was the one in St Pauls , the bikes were a natural progression as at the time this store was the number one boardman store .
A bit OT but St Pauls had great staff. Their mechanic 'Nev' was a top guy! They must have been making a few quid out of that site. I guess they just ditched the whole thing.

I don't think there's a market for them at Halfords.
The kind of people who ride 'fixies' are either cycling nutters or fashion victims.
Neither of these kinds of people will shop at Halfords.
I dunno. I popped into my local Raleigh dealer/giant car accessory shop and they had a fixie. They are pretty mainstream now and I can see Halfords stocking them soon. The kind of people who ride 'fixies' are either cycling nutters or fashion victims.
