Quick roadbike advice!

Hi all,

I have a Bianchi Via Nirone, I've recently unpacked it from it being shipped from the UK to my home and I've set the Handlebars up but I can't figure out what I need to tighten to the stop the front wheel moving independantly from the handlebars.

On the mountain bike I've just performed the same procedure on tightening the bars also tightened the wheel, but not on this bike as the clamp is offset, if that makes sense!

This is easy. Relax.

First, loosen the two bolts that secure the end of the stem to the bike (aka the steerer - the bit that is the single tube at the top of the fork, that pokes out the top of the head tube. If in doubt, google a diagram of head tube and steerer).

Next, there is a bolt on the very top of the steerer. Tighten this, but do not tighten it super tight.

Now tighten up the stem bolts.

Your front wheel should now turn with the handlebars. If you pick the bike up by the saddle, the front wheel should fall into a neutral forward facing position and return there if pushed to the side. If the steering is too tight, so that you can't turn the bars or the front wheel does not return to neutral, you tightened the bolt on the top of the steerer too tight.

If you can't figure that out I'd suggest getting the whole bike checked over at a bike shop. Seriously.

Should only cost a few quid and will be worth it to stop you faceplanting into oncoming traffic.
