Well, 627km, as plotted. Riding this between 3am next Saturday morning and whenever I get home. I'd love to do it <28hrs, as the last one 600km (617km) I did was in <32hrs with 4hrs kip. Doing it with a bunch of other chaps who plan on sleeping when they get to 400km, but I'm going to try to do it non-stop. If it doesn't work out, there are always bus-shelters.

Haven't drunk caffeine or alcohol for 4 weeks, got my BMI back down in the 19s, been putting in ~300km a week on the bike. Feel like between my Brooks saddle and a saddle bag equipped with supplies of sudocrem, proplus and ibuprofen tablets and gel, I'll be fine. Should be fun, of a sort.

Good work. They're a doddle these long distance rides. You just have to keep pedalling wink

Whilst I applaud your endurance levels and sense of adventure, please don't fall asleep whilst cycling and get run over by a lorry

You sir, are insane.
Like those 'ultra runners' who just keep running.

Best of luck, stay frosty.

Looks like your going to (almost) come past my front door in Lincoln. Pop in for a coffee and wee stop if you like smile

ENE of the 'h' in Peterborough there's a wee dog-leg section where you have to come.back on yourself. May I ask what is up there and why its on the route? Is it the 400k mark?

Going round the park at the back of my house by the looks of it hehe

What's your route through Peterborough and do you have an ETA? Might pop along for a short ride out ...

I didn't do PBP, sadly. This is to make up for my missing 400. I've got the 2, 3 and 6 in the bag, and this was the last chance to get my SR (excluding the frankly mental 600 from MK to Wales and back in mid October.

It's a DIY by GPS audax; For various reasons, it doesn't matter that I'm way over 600km, to get points (don't ask) I have to go to particular places. For this ride it's Cambridge - (the rest of the guys start here) MK - Billing - Oakham - Newark - Howden - Brigg - Sleaford - South Witham (Travelodge) - Fleet Hargate - Downham Market - Chatteris - Cambridge. I think the bit you are referring to is the trip into Downham Market and back out. I get the points when I submit the GPS track showing that I went to the places I specified.

The basic route is here - http://ridewithgps.com/routes/715013

I guess I'll be there somewhere between 7am and 10am on Sunday morning. However, I'll have been riding for ~30 hours, and will probably be a bit weird by then. Probably not up for company by that stage, but thanks for the offer.

@sweni - it's unremarkable compared to most of the guys on YACF's audax board. One guy has just done 3500km in 15 days Some of the guys on YACF did PBP without sleep and made it to Brest and back in under 60 hours. I'm doing this one sleepless partly because the 1st 600 I did felt well within my comfort zone. I'm hoping this one will take a bit more out of me. If I don't feel like I've suffered at least a little bit at the end of this, I'll be disappointed. Not that it need be difficult. Pete Kelsey's video was on Road.cc yesterday. He made PBP look like a great laugh, despite being twice the distance.

http://road.cc/content/news/43908-video-towards-oc...

Albeit his previous video of the 1400km of LEL did do the suffering brilliantly

Thanks for the explanation! Good luck to you on the ride thumbup

I must admit from knowing a few guys who do audaxes in Ireland I have to say they are the most peculiar/mental things! Tales of meeting a strange man in the ahole of nowhere to be given a route of his chosing and then picking up till receipts enroute and posting them to the bloke when complete! Can you imagine explaining that to the missus before buggering off for the weekend hehe

Your method via GPS tracking is so 21st Century!

Chapeaux!

Fair play to you!

What's the bike of choice for these long distances? A full on tourer or a roadie with relaxed geometry?

Well, I'm off to bed soon. You must be in East Anglia somewhere.

Great respect, but I think you must be rather more 'committed' than most!
Looking forward to hearing how you do. Are you working on Monday?

No, it's next weekend, not this one. This weekend has been spent trying to squeeze in some bike prep (new chain, cassette, etc) between doing stuff with the kids and around the house in an effort to bank some brownie points before next weekend.
