Did a great ride today, 65 miles over some decent terrain - http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=313... . Averaged 17.5 mph but was back of the pack mainly as it was the faster group. Sadly I now have to nurse this little beaut.

Got another one like that on my arse too. Going down a steep hairpin and the
Bike went from under me. Was 18 miles in too.

What riding have you all done this weekend?

Ouch - that's one way to shave your legs I suppose.

I did a 55 mile ride yesterday with just over 3000ft ascent. No idea what my average moving speed was as I didn't know how to set up my app to pause when not moving. Average speed was 13mph.

Good effort with the ride and the rash, road rash catches us all at some point and can look pretty impressive so be sure to show it off to all and sundry!!

Haven't done a great deal myself this weekend on account of a dodgy bottom bracket - 35 miles yesterday and just over 20 today. Avgs were 16.7 and 18.5 respectively - yesterday was hillier at 2900ft climbing, today just over 1000ft but didn't want to push my luck by going too far or too fast and having it fail completely on me miles from home so kept fairly local.
Will be hitting the gym over the next week to keep ticking over while the bike goes to be fixed.

Excellent event - one to look out for if they do it again next year.

Rob, be careful tonight.

It was at that point I discovered that the quilt cover had attached itself to the now drying scar.

I may have screamed a little wink

Ouch indeed, savlon is your friend.

Managed my first 50 miler at an overall average of 16.1mph which I'm happy with, very few riders out early sat am, didn't manage to latch on to anyone else so totally solo. Phone app crashed after 26 miles luckily had a a basic bike computer to keep distance right and ended up doing a loop near home to get the last 1.5 miles done. Short sharp hill and a longish easy climb only 1500ft of overall climb so i'll have to build this up round the Purbecks on a few rides before the hours become too short and weather too unpleasant.

Route here http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/51987922/

Sounds nasty. It will hurt more tomorrow though - usually takes 24h for th pain to come out. Keep some painkillers handy.

It's ok. I'm well versed in pain after having toothache requiring root canal and horrendous stomach cramps last week a cut leg will be child's play.

Anyone know the best course of action to make it heal without scaring?

On the assumption you have given the wound a really vigorous clean and flush then use a moist dressing and change it regularly... it'll heal with less scarring if kept moist rather than letting a dry scab emerge.

Keep it clean and you can also look for ointments that help.

I'd suggest looking for some dry lint free pads (some have gels impregnated in them to assist healing) and some of the mesh for securing it instead of tape (the mesh gauze you always see pro cyclists with of course wink )

73 miles from Clapham to Hayling Island for me yesterday. Don't know how much climbing, but felt like about eleventy billion feet! Average speed of 16mph, but with a couple of guys from work, and might have been a bit quicker without them, and the huge stops for (their) mechanical difficulties.

I think the best advice for road rash has already been covered. Remember:

"Pain fades, cuts heal, and chicks dig scars."

OK.

I've been doing a lot of reading too, I was always of the impression that just let it dry and scab and get on with it, this would explain why I'm covered in scars, but tbh on hands and knee's I'm not fussed about scars, but with that size area I think its important for it not to scar. And everywhere has said to keep it moist. So at current I'm changing dressing once a day, cleaning off gently then applying some savlon and putting a lint over it and securing it with mesh and tape and then I've put a chopped up sock over it to keep it in place (good or bad idea?) while I cycle to work etc.

I had road rash on my upper arm back at easter after a heavy fall (posted the pic on here somewhere) and that's essentially what I did. Didn't scar, although I did lose the cycling tan I had on the patch that burned off hehe One thing that I was amazed at was the amount of heat coming off the wound, I had deeper cuts elsewhere but the bit that was really sore was the burn!

As a side point, who do you ride with okgo? A club? Am looking at getting back into weekend riding (only really do commuting at the moment).
