Hi,

Have been reading PH for a long time, never register till now simply because I never thought I would post on PH!

But now, I have a question regarding a Marin Mount Vision bike which I'm looking at buying.

First of all, I'm in Hong Kong, so I cannot pick any bike I really want from shops in HK, it's near impossible to buy Marin bikes in HK, I've found ONE bike in HK at the moment which is selling the Mount Vision 5.6 in Red.

Now there is a problem with this bike, the shop that have this bike for sale told me he doesn't know what year it came out, as it's old stock, he and I have tried to match the spec from Marin website to the bike he has in stock, but....it doesn't match.

Marin website shows Mount Vision 5.6 from 2009 and 2010, and I've tried to find out if in 2008 did Marin came out with a Red Mount Vision 5.6, but I haven't found anything that proves Marin made a 5.6 in Red in 2008.

At this very moment, I want to know is the frame good or not for this bike, I can live with the fact this bike could be 2008, and I can live with the low spec of this bike since I can always change parts on it as I go along.

Cost wise, this bike is at 8000HKD, which is 660GBP, the bike is new-ish, it's a display item.

Do you guys think it's a good enough frame to go for? Buy it now, ride it, then upgrade the parts later on a good idea? Or is the frame not really worth it in the end?

Oh, haven't said what I will use it for.....erm...it'll be a bike for riding on almost anything I can ride on, from Trails to normal bike path socialing with friends...just like what I do when I was in living in UK.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

PS. sorry for my bad english, never really paid much attention when I studied in UK.

http://www.rei.com/product/782210/marin-mount-visi... is this the bike?

this one is red too although the website formatting isnt very good so I am using the picture at the top as a reference thus i think you may be looking at a 2009 model.

it looks like good value for money. you really shouldnt need to worry about uprgading anything for a few years even with considerbale off road use. its looks like it has mid-range reliable components throughout the bike and it should be good fun. definatley good value for money if its £660!
