Went out for a very flat eighty k today (well the weather was fantastic so why not?). Sunshine + my bald head = wear a cap, so I threw on an old campy one, y'know - white with the rainbow stripes.
Now I've never actually been World Champion myself (at anything), so although I saw this as a little tribute to Cav and the lads, was it wrong of me to be wearing the bands myself?
Way I see it, it's only a cap. A cap is a periferal item of kit and will obviously be removed immediately after riding or at most only worn in the pub/caff 'as long as the first sip of the relevant caffeine or hop-based beverage is taken whilst beads of sweat, snow, or rain are still evident on one’s brow '.
So I'll be wearing the bands until at least Paris - Tours and probably until the Olympics. Unless anyone can tell me why not...

It's okay so long as you wear them with a dash of style. If you'd pared the cap with a naff trade team outfit and long white socks then you'd look like a ponce, whereas if you were wearing a nice simple jersey and plainish shorts then that would be fine.
It's more about the overall look rather than individual items.
Talking of which why do loads of people these days wear their shorts and socks really long? There's absolutely no point to either, and IMO they look bizarre.

i personally wouldnt wear them just like i wouldnt wear the team gb kit you can buy in the shops nor would i buy a replica yellow/green/polka jersey but i really dont see the need to get all uppitty if someone else wears it. it just seems to be a fad for some who want to mark themselves out as part of the old school to scorn at such things. Seeing people out in rainbow/yellow etc just makes me want to overtake you and drop you 
its nothing personal just a little fun...
the clothing i choose to wear is functional and i find that the replica kit just isnt as good as the clothing by the likes of assos and castelli in terms of material, fit and performance.

Oh I've got style alright. Should'a seen me, lurid eighties blue/green top (99p Ebay), baggy shorts and stripey socks (of just the right length).
Talking of panache I scalped a fat policeman dawdling along on his little noddy police-bike on a slight rise; I just glanced over, deliberately shifted up (downtube shifters)and eased away sur la plaque. Trouble was I was almost home from an 80k with a big headwind all the way back (see, excuses like a pro), so when I eased up along the seafront I suddenly saw his shadow as he came back at me pedaling for all he was worth along the bike path. Whilst still looking deliberately casual I had to mash the big ring up the short, sharp hill past the police station in what turned into an all out race until, fortunately he turned into the cop shop.

Wearing Pro team kit is also questionable if you’re not paid to wear it. If you must fly the colors of Pro teams, all garments should match perfectly, i.e no Mapei jersey with Kelme shorts and Telekom socks.

You should wear club colours - your team.
I hate wearing trade tops, I have only one trade top bought decades ago.
The bands should only be worn by one man each year, end of.
I have in the past shared road space when racing with a man wearing red/white/blue band jersey - it was an honour for me to be riding against the british road race champ, don't wear the jersey unless......
My favourite top - the one year I was signed on a sponsored race team in the 80's - I hurt alot to even get that jersey - no fecker should come along and get one by just paying money.
