Which chain splitter?

I have a Topeak Alien but the chain splitter attached to it is a cast item which I've already broken.

Any recommendations for a forged or cut-from-billet item?.. something that'll last. Doesn't need to be branded. There's a few unbranded ones when you do a Google but I've no idea how they'll fare.

I'm pretty sure it's decent but I've taken on the repairs of the bike from my kids' after school club so I wanted something semi professional for "durability" reasons.

If it's semi-professional you're wanting, I'd recommend Park Tools.

A bit pricey, but we used them in the bike workshop I managed years ago and never had a tool break on us.

I think you're probably right. I had hoped to avoid paying £30 for one but "You get what you pay for" is probably as true as ever in this case.

Weighs about as much as a crank, so not one for the saddlebag, but lovely to use. For my saddlebag, I use the lightweight crankbros multi and a load of SRAM gold links.

Park CT-5 picked mine up for £12 on eBay. Sturdy and small enough to pack in on the bike.

The boggo Halfords one is gash and will break after a use or two, but the slightly improved one (machined rather than cast) has lasted me very well and taken some fair abuse. Think it was £10 over the £6 crappy one. When I broke my first cheapy, they replaced it without question, after that one went I got the better one. I have no doubts that if that was to break, they'd refund/replace it too.

Yes, that's more like it. Thanks. Can't understand the use of cast ones for this. You only need to get the chain slightly out of alignment, and the force of the screwing-in pin will break off one of those thin supports.
