I'm looking for recomendation for a cycle shop who does maintenance in the Windsor/Maidenhead/readin area. But I want them to have an interest in racing bikes not just mountain bikes. I've got a beautiful Cougar road-racing bike which I bought about 10 years ago and have hardly ridden. It currently has tubeless tyres which will obvously need replacing but I've never replaced tubs before. So for example, if I change to inner tubed tyres will I need to buy new wheels? I need some shoes too to fit the pedals. This is the sort of advice I need...

tyres come in two types, tubeless and clinchers. clinchers have inner tubes, tubeless do not. yes you will need new wheels to run clinchers. a good set of clincher wheels are about £100. if you want to go clincher, have a look at the shimano RS10 or fulcrum 7 wheelset. you will need a cassette, tubes and tyres as well.

the pedals will need matching cleats whcih fit your shoes. most shoes are compatible with all cleats. only brand x cleats will fit brand x shoes. so if you have shimao Look pedals you need Shimano cleats but the shimano cleats will fit most brand of cycling shoes.

anything else we can help with?

Thanks for the help. Are you from my area and if so can you recommend a shop? I really think I will need clinchers because at this time of the year I wouldn't feel too comfortable on the skinny tubs that are on it.

I bought my mountain bike from this shop a few years ago: http://www.awcycles.co.uk/. Its in Carversham in Reading. There pretty good, they have a dedicated road bike section upstairs which i was really impressed by at the time. Probably be worth a look.

I bought my Bianchi road bike from them 3 months ago, about to go back for 1st service...the only bike I shop I'd recommend in the area.

7Hundred at 68 Peascod Street in Windsor, great shop - great bunch of lads that work there, who are all very keen cyclists, or their sister shop in Maidenhead High Street called DNA cycles is also excellent.

7Hundred deal exclusively in road bikes while DNA cover both road and MTB.

If you are in Windsor wander down towards the cafe end of Peascod Street and pop into 7Hundred, its full of wall to wall bike porn - plus you can blag a free coffee without too much persuasion!

Ah ha, I know the shop in Maidenhead, didn't realise they had a sister shop in Windsor. As it's closer than Caversham I'll pop over with my bike for a chat...

I got my Mountain Bike from these people www.berkshirebikes.com. They also do road bikes.

Very good and I know a few others that got bikes from there, and were also very happy.

Another vote for AW. Had an issue with my fixie wheel and they sorted it there and then.
