27th Dec - any events/races in the south?
Discussion
Evening all, long time lurker here,
Does anyone know of any events/rides, preferably mountain bike on 27th December in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire?? Looking for a good excuse to get away from the house and have tried google but not getting much joy. Alternatively anyone know the best place for event listings? Did a couple of Wiggle events this year but looking to get back into things.

I know it's the wrong date (the 18th) but there's the SPAM Salisbury Plain mtb race/ride based at Erlestoke. Normally happens beginning of Jan but been brought forward this year and has different distances to choose from. Big entry and a good excuse to get away from the Christmas shopping I reckon.

Just tell the wife you have entered a race and that you are going out... then do what you want and ride the route you want!Does anyone know of any events/rides, preferably mountain bike on 27th December in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire?? Mr Gear – I know if I don’t have something organised motivation to just get up and out there will be almost none existant and I’ll stay in bed.
It's a fair point, this is why I book a couple of sportives a year with friends. If I didn't have an entry fee to lose and friends to upset, I'd struggle to get out of bed.timbo48 said:

Rode it last in 2010, about -1 most of the day. Son had got back from sunny Australia the night before and I dragged him out of bed for this! Good social ride, nothing too technical.

Just found this - again, probably no good if you can't do this particular weekend (18th December), but is in the Surrey/Hampshire area which may suit if you're around that way for Christmas or the like:

Failing that, if you are in Bournemouth, pop in to Ride ( clicky) in Poole and have a chat and see if any of the regulars are going over to do the Purbeck loop on the 27th - they're a friendly bunch and will show you many trails you never knew existed!

I dont go this way. We park at Kimeridge go to the ridgeway hill/knowle hill and travel along to Corfe. Out of Corfe up nine barrows and then down into upton. Turn left and go up to the obilisk, along to Old Harry and then lunch at the Bankes arms. After lunch intyo Swanage turn right and head towards Corfe on the road until a by way on the left that takes you along the Priests way to Worth Matravers, on to Kingston and then upto the trig point overlooking Kimmeridge and then back into Kimmeridge.
