It's a great ride, different view of the city, lots of big sights, 4 river crossings, 2 big hills, 3000 people this year. Great atmosphere and support.
Ask for a Crystal Palace start - that way you get to the West End later

Organisation - really good, there's a break stop with loos snacks etc every 20km, medics, mechanics and marshals on motorbikes, fully signed (though it's possible to miss some if you aren't paying attention - it's dark!).
Hills - The climb to highgate is tough after Alexandra Palace, and tougher when it's crowded with lots of people - steepest bit is 10%. Central Hill to Crystal Palace is not too bad,but if you start there it comes right at the end.
Time - Idiots do it in 4-5 hours, people who actually stop at red lights and look at London rather than other people's back wheels take 6 -7.
It is quite close to selling out, so you should register soon if you are going to do it.

Does it really take that long? I was expecting something south of 4 hours, including the red lights. I've clearly underestimated how many there are on route. I'm all for admiring London (although I've seen much of it at night), but when it's that dark can you really see much, and shouldn't you be watching where you're going? That's a serious question. Are there many accidents?
