cycle around the world in 80 days

some nutter thinks he can do this in half the time of the previous record (153 days i believe).

this is about 225 miles per day for 80 days.

225 per day not taking into account any time lost for mechanicals, erm ok..... yes we all know he is not going to do it in 80 days but he is getting the publicity before he fails which is really what all these things are about.

for starters he is going to use an alumimium race bike?!, i think the last guy i read about who did it was on a steel tourer with pannier racks just about everywhere, home made lighting systems and all sorts of other little comforts for riding positions.

I think around the World in 80 days in possible. It would take a pretty superhuman effort to do so though.

No chance of being able to cover that sort of mileage once he gets off the beaten track. As above though, it's all about the publicity.

I think some of the people involved in the same race are doing it fully-supported, and I reckon they have a shot at doing in 80 days. Hard work, certainly, but do-able. This guy's unsupported though, so he'll being doing really well to get anywhere close to 100 days.

With these "around the world" cycles, they can pick and choose the good bits to cycle through, and can avoid anywhere that's going to be awkward.
