Replacing steerer tube?
Discussion
Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to have the steerer tube replaced on a set of Rock Shox Reba Team '09 forks?
I've had to get a new frame following on from breaking my previous one, and typically the tube is about 10mm too short to work with the new frame. I really didn't want to have to get a new set of forks, as I like those, and they've not done that many miles yet

The headset is an integrated one - Scott Scale 40 frame, so I don't think I can do much with it( I haven't actually seen this, as I've asked my LBS to carry out the frame swap for me).
Hmmm, looks like I might just have to bite the bullet and get some more forks, and sell the old ones to someone who has a frame with a shorter steerer tube than my new one.

Thanks for this, although I think the problem is a lack of steerer tube protruding past the top of the top of the headset, so the stem doesn't have enough metal to clamp onto properly with the forks installed into the new frame.http://www.parkersofbolton.co.uk/p-2961-satori-hea...

Update - I finally got a chance to get into the shop today to discuss the options.
As I feared, the stem was already pretty short, so no options down that avenue would help.
They quoted £250 for new CSU including swapping over stanchions new seals etc. This would effectively give me new forks, as I'd estimate they had done under 500 miles.
I wouldn't have got new forks of similar performance for £250, so went with this.
It's looking good though, be nice to get out and ride it soon!!

Good plan, I'l measure the steerer when I get it back, but when I cut it originally, I left a decent amount of 'spare' and put 15-20mm of spacers on. I think it is just that this Scott has a long steerer tube. Plus, being an XL, the Scott is quite a large frame, and therefore all the tubes are proportionally longer.
