Hybrid bike for MrsFoxy

I'm looking for a bike for swmbo, would appreciate any advice. It will mostly be used for gentle family rides and possibly the odd trip to Cannock Chase. Would a hybrid like a specialized vita or carrera subway be a good choice? I don't think she needs any suspension.
Budget is around £250.

I'm also in the market for a purely road hybrid for Mrs itsnotarace, from my research it seems that for purely on-road stuff then go for a Specialized Vita or Giant Dash, they are much more like flat bar road bikes.

For a mix of light off road work then look at the Scott Sportster and Trek FX ranges. Can't really give you more info as we have yet to locate any bikes that are in stock locally to try

My girlfriend has a Carrera Subway (Ltd Edition). Its a perfectly good bike for what you mentioned above, and probably the best spec of all the bikes in the £200-£300 price range.

It is closer to a mountain bike than a road bike, so not particularly light though.

Got SWMBO a Spesh Sirrus at the back end of the summer. Carbon front forks, flat bars, v-brakes, slightly chunkier tyres than full roadie and quick release wheels and seat. Decent piece of kit, she's got the Elite version which I think was £500ish, however that's the third one up in the series so would imagine the entry level version to be a fair bit cheaper.
