What fs mtb, around £1k

As per the title really.

I'm after a new mountain bike for around 1k.

Is appreciate any suggestions, I've speed the bordman which looks good and a couple of cubes.

Will be used on trails, bits of downhill etc.

By "fs" do you mean full suspension or front suspension? My Specialized Camber Comp is full suspension and came in at £999 from Wheelies Direct...



...Curio slicks and just over five hundred miles of road use and the only problem I've found is the forks don't lock out due to hitting a big pothole.

If you're looking for a hardtail I'd go for a Rockhopper or something similar.

Thanks for that, I'll have a look on Wheelies, think I get a discount through work, although I'm probably wrong.

canyon range starts around nerve xc 6.0, 1.2k and has very good reviews and kit.

The bike comes with a very nice set of cross country tyres but on the commute it feels like you're dragging a trailer and sounds like you're being chased by some angry hornets. Took the boys out to get muddy and airsick before Christmas and the bike performed really well on the rough stuff.

Take a look at the Giant Trance X4 - cracking bike for the money, Maestro suspension works incredibly well and it consistently wins F/S budget bike of the year in various bike mags.

I have a 2010 X4, it is a comfortable but nimble ride - I can easily spend 4-6 hours in the saddle without issue. I mainly ride XC or trail on it, which it is more than capable of doing all day long, but I have also ridden a number of red and black downhill runs on it - obviously its not as quick as a D/H rig but easily takes it in its stride.

Whatever you decide to go for try before you buy, what works for me might not work for you!!

Canyons and Boardmans will probably give you most bang for your buck. Have heard good things about those Trances though - a great upgrading frame by all accounts

A thousand Pound will get you a lot but it will soon be the season of forgotten resolutions and nrealy new second hand ones will be available.
