I need a rucksac. Recommendations?
Discussion
I have done a bit of a Google. I need something that I can carry odds and sods in - drinks for the kids, sandwiches, some other lightweight items. I don't need a hydration pack.
I kind of like the look of this but I think it has a bladder too - I don't want that - just a narrow rucksac. I wondered if anyone has recommendations?

For general errands, commuting etc:

(Very) tough, plenty of carrying capacity and cleverly thought out.

Why don't you just get one with a hydration pack and remove it?
You'd gain loads of room(well 2-3 litres) of storage this way. Plus, you could probably ebay the bladder if you don't want it for a few quid.
I might. I'm just after general recommendations for brands at the mo. Never had one before and I'm not really a brand-aware type of person (no sense of fashion, you see) but I can afford a good one if I could only recognise one. You'd gain loads of room(well 2-3 litres) of storage this way. Ok. I'd start with Camelback- I know loads of people with them(myself included) and never heard a bad word against them.Maybe something like this?
Camelback Mule
The bladder comes out in about 10 seconds.
+1 for just buying a narrow rucksack with a bladder - the bladder is easily removed and it's very flexible - you never know, you may want the benefit of the bladder at some stage. I have a cheap version of something similar to the 'Mule'. It's great on the bike without the bladder, as the divider between the bladder and the storage compartment is made from neoprene, giving you a little extra padding from any 'hard' objects you carry within. The bladder comes into it's own for extra hydration on long rides, or if you don't have space for a second bottle cage on your frame. Loads of space in this type of rucksack for all the extra bits you may need on a real adventure trip - space/survival blanket, first aid kit, maps/compass, spare tubes/tyres/chain, food, and a rolled up waterproof or shell jacket strapped to the outside. Buy one that sits higher on your back, and look for some kind of ventilation system on the padding/straps, with plenty of adjustment.
