My forks are leaking air from the positive to the negative chambers so I think it's time to get them serviced. However TFT - my preferred service place as Tim is a cracking chap and knows his stuff - offer (for an extra 50 bar) PUSH tuning which fits some new fancy internal bits.

Has anyone tried them, and if you have, did find it worth the extra money?

I've never heard anything but good words about them, and their push mods.

Just a shame they can't be bother to reply to the two e-mails I sent them asking if they could do some work for me. frown

When I ordered some new bush inserts for a fox rear just before xmas the lad on the end of the phone said it's always better to ring.

Think I'll give them a try for the extra 50 quid. Air springs tend to be a bit harsh at the best of times so anything that can improve that is a bonus.

The push stuff is damping side only but it is excellent - they did a great job on my DHX by removing the silly platform damping rubbish.

Highly recommended.

They openly admit to being rubbish at e-mails! Phone them: they're VERY helpful...

I've used TF tuning for the rear shock on my Yeti - it feels like a different bike now, after my first ride i almost took the fork off to send to them on the spot to see what magic they could perform on that. when it needs a service i will do.

Very pleased with the service work they did on my float R and talas 36. The float also had the push upgrade.

They were very helpful on the phone and turnaround time was exactly as quoted. smile

Push upgrades are great (i've had a number of upgrades done over the years) but depending on what fork/shock you have you might not need them. E.g. newer rockshox already have the shimmed rebound circuit on the motion control damper (which is what the push upgrade is for RockShox forks). On Fox forks and shox they change a bunch of parts to improve oil flow and change the shim stack to suit. This shim stack adjustment IMHO is where most of the performance improvement comes from, and can be done by Mojo, Loco, and others just by altering the shim stack.

I've started using Loco tuning as they are a bit cheaper and Simon (the owner) is spot on. Gave me good advice and even sent me some bits i needed for free a while back as they are normally only available in a big package of parts i didnt need. Quicker turn around too.

So what difference did you notice? How did the ride change?

I have a set of Rebas that need a service anyway. An 06 ish Fox shock (Taken off a Whyte 46) with lock-out etc. that's never been serviced but doesn't really need it that I'm swapping onto my wife's Kona-Lisa to replace the budget none adjustable fox shock.

I also have a brand new RP32 fitted to a Turner 5 spot that's never been used as I haven't built up the frame yet.

I'll try the push upgrade for the Rebas, but would it be worth getting it for two rear shocks?

Update:

Forks back, fitted and tested on a 90 min ride Yesterday.

So they've stopped stocking the PUSH for my forks but they stated that the BLACK BOX DF damper is essentially the same so I opted for this upgrade. Total cost was 200 quid for service, upgrade and carriage.

Impressions: Initially not brilliant I have to say. First bit of the ride was on rutted forest track and small bump absorption was a bit better but the spring rate still ramps up way too fast - this is more a limitation of air springs but I had hoped this would be improved by their fettling - but it was a bit better. As the ride progressed they loosened up a lot and started to feel smoother and less harsh.

The latter part of the ride was single track with a very fast rocky DH section. On this they were a chunk better; they resisted packing down more, although they'd started to pack by the bottom. Previously I'd be out of travel and I now have some left which is a big improvement.

So, overall impressions. They are better, but the improvements are subtle and whether the improvements are due to the BB damper upgrade or simply a good service is hard to pinpoint. I'm not sure they're worth the extra 90 quid on top of the service, but they do improve things when the going gets steep and bumpy.
