walk around asking if they have any cake, they love that in penrith.

dont know if there is anything local to penrith as i've never stopped there, but there is a 19km trail at whinlatter forest. although its going to be a bit of a drive i would suspect its worth it.

Have a search on www.mapmyride.com etc. there will be plenty of logged rides I'm sure.

You could try Great Dun Fell, Little Dun fell and Cross Fell then back down again. You actually get a nice view of these 3 from centreparcs - Great Dun Fell is the big hill with the radar dome on top and it has a tarmac access road going all the way up which is one one of the biggest road climbs in the U.K. Its an absolute killer climb but well worth it for the view from the top then theres a nice descent starting from in between cross fell and little dun. I started from the other side, over the top of cross fell, down towards Penrith then back up Great Dun and it was one of the best rides I've done - proper mountain biking.

you could come out of site via the back exit (assume there is one!) head up via melkinthorpe to lowther, down past the castle into askham, out the top on high st, or down the bridleway towards howtown / round the lake side towards patterdale, plenty of options!
