Super Bright Head Torch

I need a head torch which I mainly want to use for running but it would be great if I could also use it on my bike.

As it is mainly for running (and i intend to run late at night or early in the morning) when it's very dark it would have to be very bright and also spread the light rather than focus it. I like to run on tracks/along the canal near my house as it's easier on my dodgy shins. This makes a good light even more essential as there is little ambient light (street lights, house lights etc). I don't want to end up twisting an ankle or worse - falling in the canal!


Any recommendations on what's best?

Wouldn't it be better to have a chest torch rather than a head torch for running?

The problem with a head torch (which I find on part of my cycling commute on an unsurfaced track) is that because the light is above your eye-line shining downwards, it removes all the shadows from potholes and the like, so tending to leave a poorly surfaced track looking nice and smooth!

If, on the other hand, you mount the brightest light on the bars (or chest in your case), the light is below your eye-line, thus you still get shadow and definition.

Think i saw a local guy with something like that but he had it around his chest....

yes, patience is not one of my virtues.

well i tried it tonight and it's really good! very easy to operate. it feels very comfortable and has a thin rubber strip on the inside of the headband (you can't see in the pic) which keeps it in place. i tried it while running along the local canal. without the light it was close to pitch black - i couldn't see my feet. with it, the phrase 'wall of light' from the description makes a bit more sense. the path in front of me was clear and i could see all the little pot holes/branches. it gave a good amount of light for about 10m in front and also a meter or two laterally.

you can angle the light downwards which is handy as that way you can run more naturally looking ahead and don't have to stare at the ground.

i can't comment on battery life as i've just started using it. but so far i'd thoroughly recommend it. i plan to do a lot more night running!
