My father in law has kindly decided to take us all to Center Parcs at Longleat for half term. I therefore plan to take one of the bikes along so that I can get away for a ride or two whilst I'm there.

First question - Mountain Bike or road bike around there?

Second question - Does anyone happen to have any routes pre-mapped, in the ideal world in Garmin Edge format?

I'm probably looking at around 30 miles tops (on a road bike) before people get grumpy about me abandoning them! hehe

I was kind of hoping for someone who knows the area might've put together something picturesque and quiet. Knowing my luck, I'd end up planning a route through endless industrial estates, surfaced with an even mix of cattle grids and broken bottles! hehe

For the perfect sprint training route I'd recommend this:

No need to thank me.

The Wylye valley to the east of Longleat is supposed to be a nice ride. All the traffic goes along the A36 and you cycle the b-roads on the other side of the valley.

There was a Sportive based at Longleat last weekend so you might be able to find a route map for that.

I'm sat here right now with the inlaws. I brought my SS bike thinking I'd get a good workout around the site, but there are only a couple of hills and they aren't very long. You certainly can't bomb around either, there are far too many people around, and it's not even half term. I'm just going to run all week instead.

Are there any routes on Strava?

I wasn't planning to stay in the site, but will take a look on Strava. Didn't know it had searchable routes?

This, the scenery is lovely - the final descent into Longleat park has to be one of the best finishes to a sportive I've ever seen

Mountain bike - have a chat with the local club - http://www.blackcanoncollective.co.uk/

There shouldn't really be gpxs of the routes only available because we try to control access to just the club (to ensure that the estate owners are kept happy and allow us to continue to build trails there), but i'm sure you could find something.

if you youtube black canon collective there should be a bit of footage of some of the DH runs, short but good.. personally im an xc person and theres some good loops in the area.

Cheers for that. Looks like I can very easily create a couple of suitable loops out of those! smile
