Rubbish work bike racks - best way to lock up and secure?

We have these at work



Usually, I like to lock up my bike like this with my kryptonite lock - ie. Sheldon Borwn method.



I did try all sorts but resorted to locking my wheel in only.

Any tips or am I missing something obvious?

Where are you putting the lock on the upright thingy?

Can you not put the lock through the inside of the chain stays (I think that's the right term) and then around the metal of the bike rack? That will then cover rear wheel and frame.

Unfortunately my kryptonite lock is to small to get it all locked in!

You're not missing anything obvious, your D Lock is simply too short to secure anything other than the front or rear wheel to the bike rack at your workplace. I recommend you go to your local motorcycle emporium and buy a heavy duty length of chain and padlock, (it'll be much cheaper buying it there than that a bicycle shop). You can use the chain and padlock to secure your bike frame to the bike rack and also use the D Lock through one of the wheels. You can leave the chain and padlock at work so you haven't got to lug it around with you, (unless you want to of course)!

Another option get some wire rope with loops at the end feed that round your bike and use the D-Lock like a really big padlock, that way the wire rope can go through any fancy nickable kit securing it to your bike.
