I'd really like to get a mountain bike to do some cycling, mainly on paths/roads, but also for a bit of riding in the forest.

I'd like a bike with front suspension only, must be fairly decent overall, but not too expensive, would like disc brakes front and rear, and lockout on the shocks.

What are your thoughts on brands to look at,and what I should be prepared to pay?

Thanks!!

Depending on your budget depends on the brand, £500 will see you fine for what youre after. Boardman, Carrerra, Cube, Specialized, Kona and Giant all do bikes in that price range and all are pretty good. Best advice I received when looking was select 3 or 4 you like the look of and go to a shop for a test ride and see which one you prefer.

You could look second hand and get more for yuor money.

I quite like this website:

Worth a look around, will give some ideas on brands and budgets.
