Rapha clothing.

Has anyone got experience with Rapha gear?

What do you recon on quality and value?

Is the sizing neat like Italian clothing?

Nothing a washing machine doesn't sort out! And as for damaging it in a crash/accident, not a problem as they offer a free repair service

I have to say that's a very good service. That said 200 quid does buy a lot of shiny anodised bits of aluminium or titanium or CF

I can't bring myself to buy any Assos kit. Their adverts in Cycling Active magazine turn my stomach. That slightly overweight, hairless mincer reclining in a pseudo-sexual manner whilst bulging out of his kit makes me feel unwell.

The best Rapha kit is their merino base layers. No cyclist should be denied the pleasure. The other bits are pretty good too, and their deep winter tights were good for down to -6'c this winter.

Sizing is slightly bigger than Assos, except for the pro kit which is similar.

For choice I prefer Assos. The Assos repair service is also better IME. Faster (depsite going to Switzerland) and they replaced the panel rather than patch the hole.

Used it on the Etape Caledonia in terrible conditions and all the gear came through with flying colours!

Lovely stuff and will not hesitate to buy Rapha again when I need to!

Up North you would be regarded as VERY poncy. Leave it to the fixie posers to walk around London in. Get some old trade team / local club stuff, preferably stitched up where it suffered a slide along the tarmac.

You can't get much further north than where I am, in fact you would be a Southern poof who drinks shandy !

There are hardly any logos on Rapha gear so it's not for posing but each to their own.

It is expensive but I think it's worth it !

Indeed, Rapha gear is as plain and simple as it comes.

Don't get how Rapha can charge 3 times the price for plain kit and some of the stuff looking like an extra from emmerdale,
On the chainreaction site there is plenty of top reviews on the lusso bibshorts and wicking T's at less than half the price and the kits made in the uk

Very good! However you could get a made to measure alpaca jacket for less I reckon,


which is pretty warm & light, or if you are that far north an Aran sweater!

I looked all over for a picture I know of the Giro where they were all wearing balaclavas in the snow, couldn`t find it but did find a great article about the `88 Giro - worth a read!
