It's started earlier than I expected, but the artists have been out on the pristine canvas that is the re-surfaced Box Hill.

I'm looking forward to what else they can scrawl on there in the build up to the Olympics. Hopefully the organisers (and residents) will leave it there for the race (although I can see why they might want to get rid of this piece).

Going O/T, but has anyone ridden Box Hill within the last couple of weeks to know if it has been properly resurfaced?
The last time I went up there, they'd removed the speed bumps on the zig zags and laid fresh tarmac there, but otherwise left it untouched. I was left thoroughly bemused and pissed off at the thought that they were just going to remove the bumps for the duration of the games, then put them back, leaving the same old s
tty tarmac on the rest of the road.
I want my Olympic legacy, and frankly, some decent resurfacing around Box Hill is likely to be all I'll get even on an optimistic day!!

The whole road has been resurfaced. It's a shame, because at least before the rough surface and speed bumps gave a bit of resistance. The pro riders wouldn't have called it a hill even then, but at least the surface could have created a bit of drama.
Now it's so quick and smooth they'll be looking forward to going up it compared to the condition of the rest of the roads. Maybe someone could 'graffiti' it with some cobbles the night before the race...

Dammit now I'm going to have to go and kill myself again to get a new PB :@ Most people go up there at about 4mph though, so the surface isn't really going to make that much difference.Now it's so quick and smooth they'll be looking forward to going up it compared to the condition of the rest of the roads. I'd also say that box hill is one of the easier climbs in that area... Could have done a figure of eight thing:
up whitedown, down crocknorth, round and up ranmore common road, down whitedown, up crocknorth, down ranmore road repeat 8 times. That's what I do on my recovery rides anyway

That fills me with dread that hill does. I'm doing the King of the Downs sportive which includes all the Surrey Hills in a few weeks time. I'm looking at Box Hill as a rest. I'd also say that box hill is one of the easier climbs in that area... Could have done a figure of eight thing:
