Just been knocked off for the first time ever

So here's the thing. When I come down to London to work in Westminster, I like to bring my bike for the run down from Euston. Staying over tonight so go for a nice amble along the South Bank. A nice way to unwind after a busy day.

So on the way back up to the hotel going round Trafalgar Sq some twonk guns for an exit from the wrong, right hand lane and takes me out. Bike ok apart from a scuff on my new Selle Italia Turbo saddle and I've got a few grazes. Now I'm a bumpkin from Worcestershire so I'm all viz'd up and all but usually enjoy cycling on London but this has spooked me.

I heard my helmet scrape the Tarmac and thought that that could have been my temple.

I don't know how many PH Peddlers have been knocked off and how they dealt with it but I'm now not sure about ever bringing my bike down here again and should probably stick to the country lanes around Droitwich.

I dunno...just feel very jaded, and suddenly very vulnerable.

Sorry to hear that - what knocked you down and have you reported it? Very cctv'd area - easy to trace the culprit.

The guy did stop and we did have a short 'chat' but to be honest the aftermath was a bit of a blur. After checking that I was ok and picking up the bike I was more interested in getting out of the road and onto the pavement. A couple of other cyclists stopped to see if I was ok which was very good of them.

Take the point about a new helmet! I popped into the Imperial War Museum earlier today to get some stuff for my daughter's WW2 school topic and got a replica ARP warden's helmet. Will that do?
