Lighting board

Probably clutching at straws here but does anybody remember a lighting/number plate board where the connections were fibre optics that fixed (stuck) onto the outside of the tail lights of cars, thus dispensing with any electrical connections? I remember seeing this on TV a good few years ago and never found out whether it ever went into production.
