Ever the optimist, let's start an opposite thread, me first.

Wheelies.
There are lots of general things I love about cycling (cheap personal freedom et cetera) but I still love pulling big stand up wheelies in front of the neighbour's kids and getting cheers and whoops.
I've got a grin on just writing this.

Your turn...

After about 3 miles when my legs have warmed up biggrin

Or passing people on road bikes dressed in full lycra on my MTB with tractor tyres on my way home.

Then again getting to the top of that hill, the one I pick every route so I can beat the bugger.

I just love getting out these days, tomorrow will be the first time in ages. I love the little things, nailing a switchback in one fluid motion, finding a run that seems to go on forever, and the view on a hard earned climb at the top. I love building bikes more at the moment!

MTB - getting up the near impossible techy rock sections without dabbing.

Road - Slight tailwind, absolutely gunning it on smooth winding tarmac.

I'm kind of missing the lonely dark towpath. I have 1.5 - 2 miles of canal towpath on my commute, over the winter I had it to myself, but now I have to share it with nodders, anglers and walkers.

Quite enjoy going out to ride without having to put on layers at the moment though.

This but doing it on a rigid singlespeed and doing it at the front of a group to set the benchmark!

Agree that wheelies are very satisfying.

I've tried a few different aspects of cycling, I went through a trials phase and found that being able to show off using street furniture for example benches/walls etc was quite a lot of fun.

More recently though I have been doing far more downhilling and have discovered the Forest of Dean cycle centre - now the thrill of pure speed and trying to find the smoothest/fastest line is great.

All of it:
A beautifully orchestrated, near-telepathic chain gang.
On-the-drops, head-down, motoring along the flats.
Getting up that bd hill, turning around and going back up it again.

Ohhhh yes...

The camaraderie between riders!

In an age where a lack of patience and pressures on our time seem to press ever harder from all sides, just getting on my bike, and going for a cycle with friends or even strangers hits the spot for me! No matter how hard and tedious a day in the office has been, no matter how many discusions have turned into auguments, differences of opinion into entrenchment, then after a couple of miles just pushing the pedals around, and feeling the world go by under my wheels is a complete release ;-)

Easy 25mph cruise through the teign valley at 8am this morning with little traffic, beautiful scenery and no wind on the racer. And monstering all my mates on their carbon fully sussed MTB's on my 10 year old GT hardtail around Dartmoor!

I'm usually a reasonably mature, sensible cyclist, on both my roadie and MTB.

There are, as already said, pleasures from giving it large downhill on a fast roadie, and indeed similar on an MTB.

However, occasionally (and I do mean once in a blue moon) I go out with a couple of mates, and despite us all being around 40 and hence should know better - sometimes we ride into town on our MTB's, and go mental through pedestrianised shopping centres, along pavements, down the massive concrete steps of the local Courts, down the huge grassy hills of a local College campus, along the gravel riverside footpath at silly speeds, and even through the Cathedral Grounds...

If we haven't annoyed a selection of pedestrians enough that they've shouted obscenties at us, then we haven't done it properly biggrin

Bad, very bad. But such good fun too. It's like having the Devil himself sitting on my shoulder for an hour evil

getting to the turning point halfway through a ride, and realising the fresh legs, effortless speed feeling wasn't a tailwind, it was you smile.

Also, possibly a weird one, but... cycling around town can be quite satisfying when courteous drivers and good legs mean you're negotiating for space on an equal footing. Especially when queues build up and there's space to filter smile

The view from the top of the hill, when you've had a hard but satisfying ride to get there.

I've only just started using a MTB for the first time in about 10 years, and on Sunday I felt like I was flying down a track in the New Forest. It felt great. (I was probably only doing 15 mph, but it felt fast!)
