Deciding what to wear for a sportive.
Discussion
Argh.
Not sure if I'm looking for specific advice or simply having a whine here!
My mate persuaded me at the last minute to sign up for a 112 mile sportive tomorrow, all well and good and I've got the miles in my legs not to be worried about the distance.
However, the forecast for this weekend is pretty poor round the Leicester area, strong wind & rain is forecast, bad enough for a 40 mile loop but over 6-7hrs far more problematic.
I haven't got a particularly efficient rain jacket, if I wear it I will most likely soak myself from the inside, if I don't wear it I will get soaked on the outside, last thing I want is for the ride to be horrendous.
copious amounts of rule #5 will be required

Not sure you'll be able to get one in time but I'm taking this gilet on my sportive this weekend.

Small enough to easily pop in your jersey pocket and a mesh back so you don't get too sweaty.

Layers. That way you can chop/change your outfit as you ride and as the conditions change. Not sure if I'm looking for specific advice or simply having a whine here!

If there's even a chance of "warmth", no full jackets (unless you've some fancy Gore affair, and even then, I'd be wary): as said, you'll get theboil-in-the-bag. You'll lose water (bad!) and get VERY wet, no matter what happens.
I'd wear:
Base layer (Merino, nat'!)
SS jersey.
Armwarmers (Merino again, as I'm a tart).
Gilet.
Oversocks.
Don't worry too much about getting wet: concentrate on keeping the wind off you and keeping warm.
