The Ster ZLM Toer 4 day race finished this afternoon with Cav in yellow, great great result for him.
He hasn't won a stage but been top 3 everyday other than today.
Yesterday was a proper hilly day and he finished 2nd behind Boom with big time gaps through the field.
I say this is all to do with the olympics and Box hill, Cav for gold.
Amazing that he is starting to transform himself from an exceptional one trick pony, Classics next year????

yes I think he is keen to prove he is more than just a 'finisher' The guy is not afraid to work hard at improving his weaponry, it's good to see. As he ages his sprint will weaken slightly hence the need to slim down and keep 'em guessing how he's going win the next one !
As an aside, it always amazes me how guys like Cav doing the miles they do, both in racing and training have to worry about their weight, but he's been on this sugar reduced diet to loose some extra kilos. I know how he feels though, I struggle with the weight thing, but I don't do the diet and I don't do his mileage, just treat it as a bit of a handicap !

I see no evidence of him starting to transform himself. Why would he? He's not lost an ounce of speed in his finishing sprint, the moment he starts to transform himself, it would definitely take the edge off his sprint. I don't think at the moment he's physically mature enough or experienced enough to compete competitively in the longest and toughest classics. Milan-San-Remo not withstanding. As regards to Box hill, it's going to be a hell of an effort for him to get over the line first. I don't think the GB squad will be able to control the race as well as they did in the Worlds, as I think if memory serves correct, they will have a much smaller team.Amazing that he is starting to transform himself from an exceptional one trick pony, Classics next year????

He has been beaten 3 times this week in bunch sprints by different people, maybe the opposition are getting faster ?mcelliott said:

+1Pleased for Cav, he worked hard for this one and fully deserved it. He will never make a classics contender though and Sky wont waste their time trying when they have the likes of Thomas who is far more capable. I like Cav a lot but he doesnt have the tactical nous nor the mental stamina to win a proper classics race, he crumbles on climbs and struggles to read races. can you honestly imagine him on the Paris-Roubaix covered in s

Sprinting has changed, both Abdoujaparov and Cipo were 30 when they won the green jersy, petacchi is 38 and can still be a threat on the odd day.
