where in Wales (Llangadog)

So here's the thing... I've always wanted to take a trip over to Wales for a ride and a booze up. On sunday my mate drops in a casual "oh yeah we've got a caravan in wales", which as it turns out is some sort of 4 double bedroom plastic fantastic mansion! Its moored in Llangadog. A quick bit of research reveals a number of local towns with very welsh names 
I am way out of my depth already. So who can identify where my nearest & best riding is please?????
Oh yeah, and the nearest pub is called the Red Lion, which if pub names are anything to go by, means its gonna be awesome!

you are about 30 minutes from Fan from the look of it

or there is an abundance of stuff in the brecons, grap a OS map before you go and have alook on the first night and remember everything bar footpaths is fair game, RuPPS, bridlepaths, by-ways etc....

PJ is right. Brechfa and Cwm Rhayedr (sp?) are brilliant. The latter has only the one trail, fire road up and singletrack back down but needs to be done at least twice when you're there. Very big grin factor and worth finding. The nearby villages at both centres have good pubs too.
If you head Rhyader way look on an OS map and go and ride there is loads about. Ive ridden a couple of enduros and a Polaris around there, Some cracking riding!~Oh yeah and if you like birds (feathered sort unfortuantely ) the Red Kite place is worth a visit

Yes, Afan would be about an hour away but you'll be closer to Brechfa. You could always stop off at Afan and/or Cwmcarn on the way and/or way back though as they're both only a short drive off the M4.Oh and since this is PH, I should also point out that Llangadog is at one end of the awesome and well know A4069 Bryamman - Llangadog Road which is so beloved of Evo, Top Gear and others.

Thanks for all other responses. So can you clarify is this a bit like skiing in that you head to the resort and spend a week finding the best runs? What are the best runs in Brechfa. We are lame'os btw, no body armour, normal helmets, I am thinking Blue runs maybe a Red. Definitely not a black after the night before!!

They're all good, green is very short, it's smooth like a 'normal' green, but it's a 'Brechfa spec' Green which means fast and flowly, not the usual wander around the park they normally are. Blue is actually the green trail, with an extra few K at the far end that’s, faster and rockier (it also part of the black trail and it's hard to tell which camp it falls into sometimes)
Black is hell, in a good way, but it's very steep up and down, and will catch the unawares out given half a chance.
They're all at the same centre (centre as in 2 portaloos and a carpark) and you can pick and choose sections if you get the lay of the land - last time down there we started black, skipped into Blue, back on the black, and actually ended on the green! The last section of the green can be ridden at slowish pace - here's my 6 year old hitting it.

Or flat out and it's super fast, a GPS clocked 35mph fast.
The red is actually at another centre down the road, it's the best trail in South Wales IMHO, can be a bit of a slog, especially in the wet as the ground sucks a bit, it's also 1000m of vertical climbing which is about double a normal red graded XC trail, but the descents, especially the last few are mind blowing.

I'd advise this 100%. I know how it sounds, but the green is a lovely flowing (mostly) gem. As it's a green there aren't the steep up's, table tops or other technical gubbins that could put off people taking their kids (took my 12yr old daughter & her mate there this weekend - they want to go back and call it the "roller coaster" instead) but at the same time if you're not with the young-uns, hit it at pace and it's just *fun*. We usually do the black and end with a quick blast on the green & is a great way to end the day.
P-Jay - thanks for the detail and lovely to see your little one out there already! My boys are a of couple years off that yet..
So out of interest, how long are the climbs? Are we talking 30 minute ups for 10 minute blasts down? Or are the climbs long & sustained. I am not unfit or anything just curious.

I will be sure to photo any broken limbs, cuts, bruises, hangovers.
The plan is to drive down there on Friday morning.. have a casual root around Brechfa in the afternoon and sus out where we will spend a full day on Saturday. My new steed has also just arrived thanks to pdealon, a 2012 Anthem x2. Initial impressions are very good and can't wait to push her to the limits. Pic to follow

Sorry I missed your last post in June - I was riding in the Alps (get me).
Climbs eh - well, the green climb is nothing really, not too steep and mostly, if not all on Fireroad, it's a bit much for my Lad on his singlespeed so we tend to just loop the last bit.
Blue as above is the same, but with one added tough climb, all of 30m's of it.
Red, there is a LOT of climbing on the red actually, 1000m of vertical climbing puts it in the same league as Skyline or Passportes! but in reality it's not that bad, they're never that steep or technical and there are mindblowing views to take your mind off tt. but there are 3 really big climbs and they seem to go on forever - I'm sure the last section of downhill wipes your memory or something because I never remember the pain after that ha ha.
Black is brutal unless you're a proper whippet, seriously steep in parts and lots of it.
