Edge 500 brain fart moment.......

I have been using a Garmin Edge 500 with the GSC10 cadence/speed sensor for about 18 months now with only the odd glitch, usually resolved by restarting the unit.
This evening the thing seemed to go into complete meltdown, and stopped recording speed and distance, yet continued to report H/R and cadence. My initial thought was that the speed/cadence sensor had died, but as it was still reporting cadence this is probably not the case. I tried turning it off and on, cleaning and re-setting the GSC10, I asked it nicely to play again and when that didn't work I swore loudly in a very threatening manner, but that didn't do the trick either.
It did record my route, but it dropped 6.8 miles from the total, and dropped 5.4 mph from my average speed - which was bloody annoying as I had a fairly swift ride tonight.
Has anyone else had similar issues with the Edge? If so, how did you cure them? Could it be the battery on the GSC10 beginning to fail?

If it's not reporting speed and distance, is the wheel magnet still in the correct place? Is it still there?!
After than, I'd change the battery in the speed/cadance sensor, yes.
Are you running v3 firmware? Heard there's ben a few problems with that.

I'd gave a guess at your distance being calculated by the gps data rather than the wheel speed sensor, so if it's all over the shop it might have been gps interference. Happened a lot last year with solar flares. I know my edge 800 goes a bit silly when it can't get a good fix for a while in the forests.
I updated to V3.0 of the firmware a couple of weeks ago, up to that point the only issues I had experienced were ‘wandering GPS traces’, and every now and again it would lose contact with my H/R monitor or GSC10.
Wheel magnet and sensor are still on place, in fact the wheel magnet has a small blob of threadlocker on the back of it just to make sure it does not wander. I’ll give the sensor and magnet a clean tonight and change the battery in the GSC10, hopefully that will do the trick.
I did a quick Google last night and it seems that V3.0 has introduced a world of random issues to the Edge 500, if changing the battery and re-setting the device does not do the trick I might revert back to the older version of the firmware until the current bugs are fixed.

Was gearing up for a furious rant at the customer service people but it seems to have recovered spontaneously. GPS tracking seems to have improved
