9 speed MTB cassette

I am getting myself confused, just aquired a spare set of rims for my cube hardtail with plans to fit road tyres. But as to the rear cassette there seems to be lots of options, I take it a £30 cassette is fine for general commuting use? And is it worth getting a 11-25 or stick with the 11-34 I already have on my other set?

If you're only using it for commuting you may find the 11-25 better on the road; do you spend most of your time in the 'little' gears on your existing bike? if so, 11-25 might be the one.

Or just stick with what you know if you're unsure.

The 25 will give you more closely spaced ratios and probably be lighter. If these things matter for you on your commute then go for that.

If not then I'd stick to the 34. That way if your off road wheels get busted you just switch tyres on your commuter set.

Do spend my time on the small cogs when on the road and find the big jumps in ratio a pain, but also like you say like for like would be handy if I trash my off road set....

Stick with a version of what you've got otherwise I'd expect the indexing to be out each time you switch wheels. You may find it is anyway as the cassette will be newer, but such is the price of swapping wheels.

Shouldn't really be an issue if he stays with the same brand.

Go for the 9 speed, worst that happens is you'll have to adjust the B-limit screw. And it will help you grow bigger leg-guns!

after tonights ride I am getting a 25, too much spacing on road up hill, can never seem to get the right ratio. Will stick with a shimano cassette tho.
